I exceed expectations with my commitment to professionalism. I do this by protecting the confidentiality of my children, their families and the program. I have a positive attitude and work ethic while maintaining my energy and enthusiasm. I take every opportunity to continue my professional growth to gain knowledge about child development and early childhood to ensure I'll be the best professional I can be. I do this by networking with other professionals, reading reputable and current articles, and attending training courses. I seek out opportunities where I can assist my colleagues in curriculum planning and classroom management. I avoid gossiping and toxic stress at all cost.

I chose to become a preschool teacher after my son finished his PreK program. I was homeschooling my 3 year old daughter in preschool and was getting accolades from friends and family. They would often tell me I should become a preschool teacher.
As my son was finishing up his PreK program the teachers announced their retirement. I quickly knew this was my opportunity to live out my dream of being a preschool teacher. As part of my CDA requirements I needed to spend time in a classroom so I began volunteering in my daughters PreK class. I enjoyed being encouraged to be creative and playful in daily activities and have a substantial input in the classroom curriculum and schedule. I really liked using games, storytelling, and other activities to help children develop language and vocabulary, improve social skills, and learn basic science and math concepts. The highlights of my days volunteering was when I saw a child’s eyes light up when they learn/try something new. When they suddenly were able to make the letters in their name, or do something they weren’t previously able to do, I got as excited as they did. When the children were lined up waiting to come into class, and then run in and give me a hug, it warmed my

To maintain a commitment to professionalism in childcare you should set a goal for yourself. My goal in my classroom is to set a standard of excellence with in my facility and to commit myself to the growth and development of each child in offering a positive, kind, loving, and safe atmosphere. I have respect, not only for myself but, for my center, each child, and their families. I keep all parental information shared with me confidential. I also uphold all health and safety regulations and make children's well-being my top priority. I remain trustworthy to children parents and staff at the center. I also respect family diversity. This includes but is not limited to cultural differences, orientation, or economic status. I encourage individuality in children. I treat each child with respect and help them to build a positive self- image. Being informed is being ready to assist any child with any need they may have. I feel it is important to always stay positive and keep a smile on your face. Stay on top of new regulations for your center as well as updated laws and other developments within early childhood education. Always make sure you have information to help parents that have children with additional needs your center cannot provide and have contact information readily available for the reporting of any sexual abuse, child abuse, or neglect. I feel I am a kind and loving person and am genuinely concerned about the growth and development of each child entering my center. I want to give them every opportunity to grow and learn in a safe environment. I love working and being around children not just in a group setting but also a one on one setting.…

As a professional, I promote child development and learning. I meet the children where they are and build off where they are individually not just developmentally because every child is different; and just because a child is not at the same level as another child doesn’t mean that they are not accomplishing anything. I praise every milestone regardless of how big or small, and I encourage the parents to do the same.…

As a childcare worker it is important to develop professional relationships with children, families, colleagues and other professionals. One way I can develop a professional relationship with parents is to always be approachable, to listen to what they say, be honest with them and always keep them up to date with any changes. This gives them confidence to speak to me about any concerns they have. With children I would develop a professional relationship with them by meeting all their needs, providing adequate stimulation and ensuring I keep them safe by following all guidelines. One way I can develop a professional relationship with colleagues is by respecting. Listening, sharing information and most of all working as part of a team. With other professionals I would develop a relationship similar to the one with colleagues, as well as working with them, sharing all information, attending meetings and keeping my records up to date. This would be the same for various settings such as primary school, nursery or out of school club.…

I decided to become an early childhood professional because kids are simply my passion. Even though working with children may not always be easy, its still worth it. Some days can be frustrating, and we may need to go take a breather, but there’s always something in my head telling me to not give up. When I’m around kids, I feel like I forget everything that's around me, I forget what’s going on. If I arrive in a bad mood, when I sit down with a child, my mood changes. I have babysat for the past few years and my passion for kids have grown larger and larger throughout the years. I feel like since when I started this program a year ago, I've come a long way, and I’m not afraid to be silly with the kids anymore.…

To maintain a commitment to professionalism I remember that the parents are the primary teachers and I’m there to support them. I meet children where they are and build off where they are as an individual not just developmentally because some children thrive faster and better than others; and just because a child may not thrive as well as another child does not mean they haven’t accomplished anything. I encourage parents to praise every milestone regardless of how big or small it may be. I also express to the children that I work with that an accomplishment is something big; even if it’s not what we were looking to achieve. Its progress and they are still doing great and if there is no progress we need to keep going.…

I was granted the opportunity to work with the children and teachers of Coal Pit Learning Center for community engagement week. I worked with the children throughout the week to provide relief to the exhausted teachers and be a person who can look over the children. I was gifted the opportunity to work with a variety of children of ages from 3-5. My first day was tiring, but full of excitement. The children were a mix of shy and excited as we walked into their classroom for the very first time. I thought to myself, as my 3 classmates and I were thrown into the chaos of a group of 3 and 4 year olds, what I should be doing to help. But there was no need for the teachers to explain to us what to do, the children immediately gave us jobs of playing with them or making us watch them race their cars around the room. The week turned out to be a wonderful learning experience for me and the people I worked with.…

Every week at a nearby elementary school, I tutor children from kindergarten to sixth grade as a part of their YMCA after school care program. Typically, I work with the same group of students to finish their math homework, work on a project for social studies, or help them sound out new words. By watching them thrive in a positive environment and develop a love for learning, they constantly teach me new things. After being at school all day and dealing with ample amounts of stress, their innocent and bright minds cause me to ground myself and realize what is at the core of all of my hard work in academics: a thirst for knowledge. Perhaps the most rewarding thing has been witnessing them improve dramatically, such as being able to read a word with ease that we sounded out multiple times the previous week, with a smile on their face and a new sense of confidence and accomplishment. Steadfastly teaching them that by working hard and not giving up they can reach their goals, it leaves me with such a proud feeling when I see them putting it into action. Tutoring has been a two-way street: the children have impacted my life in a positive and meaningful way just like I have impacted…

Several factors that have contributed to my interest in Early Childhood Education have been my time as a volunteer, both my mother and grandmother, and the fact that you are able to inspire an entire generation of children. While volunteering at Nestucca Valley Elementary school I worked in Susan O’Leary and Dana Hulbert’s classrooms. During my time in their classrooms, I learned that I worked extremely well with a variety of students and was able to show compassion and patience with the most challenging students. My greatest inspiration for going into this career has been both my…
