Magazines

Magazines, periodicals, glossies or serials are publications, generally
published on a regular schedule, containing a variety of articles, generally financed by advertising, by a purchase price, by pre-paid magazine subscriptions, or all three. Magazines can be distributed through the mail; through sales by newsstands, bookstores or other vendors; or through free distribution at selected pick up locations. Magazines are distributed into three categories: paid circulation, free circulation and controlled circulation. Paid circulation is when a magazine is published to a paid audience. Free circulation is when a magazine is distributed for free.

How often they reach this media?

In a paper survey of sixty students (34 females, 26 males) taken at Mason High School in November 2004, approximately 68% of girls read teenager magazines regularly and
approximately 41% used the magazine’s advice in their daily lives (Waltz, 2004).
65%, however, felt that the information in the magazines was not a positive influence
in their lives. This data serves to show that many readers of these magazines are
aware of the potential negative effects the articles and advertisements portray.

How do magazines affect teenagers?

As teenagers can get magazines easily everywhere, magazines can really affect them deeply.

There are some good effects from magazines to teenagers.

In social aspect, teenagers can get the latest news or information from a magazine. If the news and information are correct, they are able to get new information quickly. It is convenient for them to get information at home as well.

In personal aspect, educational magazines such as literature magazines can help teenagers to develop their skills in writing, strengthen their vocabularies, which is very useful for them.
