Gross Anatomy of the Central Nervous System

Laszlo Vass, Ed.D. Version 42-0011-00-01

Purpose: What is the purpose of this exercise? To identify the major structures and functions of the brain and spinal cord through dissection of a sheep brain and the use of diagrams.

Are there any safety concerns associated with this exercise? If so, list what they are and what precautions should be taken. There is always a concern when working with the chemical used to preserve the sheep brain. It is important to protect yourself by wearing goggles, gloves, and an apron. Also a mask over your mouth. It is also important to be careful when using sharp tools as not to cut yourself.
