    “Proceed with the kill order.” The commander’s words echo through my head. For a moment, it feels as if time has stopped and I am now faced with perhaps the hardest decision of my career with only five to ten minutes to either agree or call off the missile. In this mission the targets are known terrorist Awali al -Shabab and Ibrahim al- Hakim. The two targets arrived at the target building a few minutes ago, where two additional suicide bombers were already located preparing their explosive vests for a possible unidentified threat of suicide attacks. The perimeter of the target site consist of a possible hospital or madrasah along with a mosque. The hospital has not been confirmed to be operating or to be a hospital at all, but there has been activity of women with young children In and out of the building. If sent the missile will destroy everything within its radius which will include the target house, the hospital and the dwelling to the North of the target. It is now up to me to make the decision to issue the order to arm and release the missile or belay the order. Twenty seconds go by and words refuse to come out my mouth, another few seconds and still nothing. I feel my heart heavy as I commence to say, “launch the missile and eliminate the wanted targets.”…
