William Golding explores the Idea That Irrational Fears Sometimes May Lead to Dangerous Consequences

Irrational is defined as inconsistence with reason or logic, and fear is defined as a feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger. Therefore irrational fears are persistent, abnormal, dread of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous. This is known as social anxiety disorder which causes the person to act differently then they feel. They may be unable to express their own personal thoughts or opinions in groups because of their incredible fear of being judged and ridiculed. An example of how the irrational fear of being judged may lead to dangerous consequences is when gay or lesbian people are to afraid to come out of the closet in fear of being picked on by their peers and shunned by their families. Some people may commit suicide because of their fear of telling others their sexuality preference. Which is a detrimental consequence on behalf of their irrational fear. Or they may spend their whole lives living a lie and never tell a soul about the real truth. This effects their quality of life and their ability to be happy. That is why irrational fears may lead to dangerous consequences.

Some examples of irrational fears in Lord of the Flies is fear of being judged which is when a person is to afraid to act on what they think. They fear being ridiculed and picked on. But people who listen to their conscience, are the bravest because it is not easy to listen and act on what your conscience tells you because many people are afraid of the consequences of doing so. Another is the fear of the unknown, which is quite a common phenomenon with human beings, when they do not wish to accept or meet with anything unfamiliar in terms of any situation or individual.
