Lord of the Flies essay
The theme of human nature is the most important and the cause of the all of the chaos among the boys. Jack and his hunters are the evil ones who love to start conflicts between them. Ralph, Piggy, and Simon are the good ones who just want everyone to work together so they can get off the island faster. But for some reason, without either good or evil neither of them could survive. There are three major conflicts that the boys face while they are on the island.
The first major conflict they face is about fire and food. This conflict starts when Ralph and Jack are fighting and Ralph says,” I was talking about smoke! Don’t you want to be rescued? All you talk about is pig, pig, pig!” Jacks response to that is,” but we need meat!” (Golding, 54). This quote says that the boys aren’t in agreement to what to what is more important, keeping the fire going and getting off the island or getting meat to cook and eat so they can survive. This also reveals that Ralph and Jack are unstable towards each other if they argue and can’t agree that both their ideas are needed to get off the island.
The second major conflict is about if there is a beast or not. This starts when a littluns stands up during a meeting and tells Piggy to say,” He wants to know what they are going to do about the snake like beast thing,” (Golding, 35). This quote is saying that there is a monster in the forest and make most of the boys to start to panic and become very afraid throughout the time they spend on the island. This says that the boys are not ready to be out on their own. If they believe everything that other people tell them and eventually make them act like savages and end up splitting into two tribes forgetting what is truly important. They need to drop everything and make plans to get off the island.
