LORD OF THE FILES: BOOK VS MOVIE

There are a series of differences between the book “Lord of the Files” written by William Golding and the movie directed by Harry Hook that are going to be explored. The story talks about a group of young boys whose airplane crashes on a deserted island. Because of the book´s popularity it was taken to the big screen. But there are a series of events and situations which don’t appear in the movie and are necessary for understanding the author’s purpose for writing his novel. The answer of the contrast between movie and book is found in different topics, background and context of the story, difference between characters and use of symbolism in both versions.

Harry Hook nearly used the exact same story line, characterization, and plot, however due to time issues he left some details behind or included wrong footage to make it more interesting. For example, the including of glow sticks to see what was in the cave. There are differences since the beginning of the story, from that point, it can be noticed one of the most important and notorious difference between the book and the film is the actual presence of a grown up in the film. As well, it’s easily observed in the novel that the kids are from Great Britain; whether in the cinematographic production they are from United States, this shows a clear difference between both language slang. Another huge difference is that the book   take place during the Second World War, (the reader can tell this because of a nuclear bomb being mentioned, at the beginning of the book.) While in the cinematographic version the story takes place during late 80´s, (the audience can tell this because of the reference made to the TV program “ALF”, that was popular on that time.)
