Longing for an Adventure
English essay
I long for adventure
People go through life sticking to what they have come to know. People find themselves going through their days not experiencing the full adventure life has to offer.
The unknown generally has one of two influences on peoples mind, either it strikes fear into their hearts or it irrevocably draws them towards adventure. The majority of humans reach the end of their life and they are disappointed with what they have achieved.
Life is amazing but not always easy. We are guaranteed to encounter problems, and the challenge in life lies in facing them with courage, letting the beauty of life be a celebration. There is no human being on earth, strong, powerful, wise or rich, who has not experienced, struggle, suffering or failure. “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing”, so we need to cease the moment to ensure we live without regret
Recently I have found out that the doctor told my father that he does not have long to live. I was shocked and distraught to find out that he was not sad that his time was limited, but rather he was heartbroken because he believed he had not achieved everything he wanted to do.
When contemplating what my father’s thoughts were, I realised that he was right. I felt despair when thinking about how limited our time on earth really is, how all the people we love are not here indefinitely and how everything can change in a blink of an eye. In an ironic way my father taught me one of the most important life lessons- “you only live once”. Living life to the fullest needs to be a daily goal. It is easier when you realise that grudges are pointless and they are a waste of perfect happiness, you should laugh when you can, apologise when you should, let go of what you can’t change, love deeply and forgive quickly so you never have to live a life full of regret, take chances, be bold and take daring opportunities, do activities that will create great memories and spend as much time and energy as you can

Adversity can bring out the positive and negative sides in a person. In “The Proof of Worth,” Edgar Albert Guest demonstrates how challenges in life can help someone understand what he or she is capable of during a hardship. Similarly, “The Importance of Adversity in Growth and Development” written by Patrick Kohan exemplifies how children will never learn how to conquer an obstacle if they are always given assistance. Furthermore, Laura Hillenbrand’s novel, Unbroken, indicates that experiencing problems can affect the way a person’s body reacts and thinks about a difficult moment. Ultimately, the authors highlight that obstacles can be a complex or helpful task, as well as benefit people in the future when they need to know their true talents.…

There are certain periods of life in which we have to face and handle difficulties and traumas. We experience suffering in such a way that our hopes, life projects and dreams become extinct. Sometimes, life problems are too difficult to be overcome by only ourselves. Sometimes, we need the external help of others and the values they can project towards us in order to triumph over life obstacles. Through their actions, their words, their advice and their receptivity to our troubles, people play an important role when they want to help us.…

Adversity is either chosen or brought upon someone; either way, the obstacle is either overcome or not. No matter wealth, age, or location, all people face adversity for it is synonymous with life. Life is the struggle for survival and success and order, while adversity is the representation of disorder and failure. Without either, it would be impossible to differentiate one’s achievements from one’s failures. Overcoming adversity is the basis of all great, successful people similarly to how concrete and steel is the foundation of all astonishing architectural structures.…

Hattie Owen, the main character in ‘A Corner of the Universe’, expressed this profound outlook on life which relates to people all over the world at any stage in their life. This idea tells us that we shouldn’t just have an uneventful, “safe” and dull life; instead, we should investigate and probe around with all the possibilities that life could bring us; life will be a lot more fascinating this way. This can encourage people everywhere to not just spend 80 or so years living in monotonous routine, but to accept the opportunities that are given to you. The main reason that people don’t do this is because they are worried that it will end in disappointment or that they will make a mistake. It’s alright to make errors, because you can learn from them. It is better to have lived and learned than to not have lived at all. What if you were given the choice of having a huge promotion to the top job in your company or staying at the bottom of the food chain? What would you choose? Say you did choose the promotion, what if you messed up and fell all the way to the bottom again in embarrassment? That doesn’t matter! Life isn’t life without a little risk. This is what Hattie Owen meant in her deep and meaningful…

You only live once tells me to live in the present and to strive hard for my dream. There is no second chance to live again, so I do not want to regret my life. Dream big and live strong is the ideal way to live. For example, running for officers for any club is not something scary. I learned to not be afraid to lose and just give it a try, otherwise I will not even have a chance to get a position.…

We must take some risks to find happiness. I find that most people are comforted by what they feel certain of, people like the fact that they know their place in life and have no urge to search further or take risks to find something different, something better. I learnt at the age of fifteen that sometimes risks can put perspective on our lives. It encourages us to push ourselves to strive further and harder to follow our dreams.…

I found a video my mom had filmed of me crossing the wooden bridge. After watching it, I realized that those bridges were kind of like life. Both of the bridges got you to your end destination, but it was up to you to choose which one to take. One bridge is sturdy, safe, and predictable and the other is rickety, risky, and unpredictable. I could have picked the safe bridge, but then I probably won’t have a story to tell or have a video to watch. In life you make the choice on which path you take just like the bridges. If you pick the safe, predictable path you’ll miss out on a lot of things. You’ll never put yourself out there. You’ll never ask that girl or guy you like out because you don’t want your heart broken or never try to publish the novel you wrote because of fear of rejection. I realized that night that life is too short to always take the safe path. When I’m at the end of life I don’t want to think back on the life I lived and have a million what ifs. Sometimes you have to face your fears and cross that rickety wooden…

So many people have ideas of things they want to do, whether they be business-related, something that scares them or even just asking someone else out on a date. Everyone has ideas about how they want to live their lives, but most people never wind up following through. They are so afraid of failure or of looking bad that they run from any kind of challenge. Then later in life, when they realize that they had all these opportunities and never took advantage of them, they regret it so much. A lot of people choose the easy way out in order to avoid challenges and barely ever choose to take the road less traveled just to see where it could take them. That is a risk that few people take because they never want the responsibility of having to work for something. Life can only be lived by those who work hard for their achievements and follow through on their ideas and goals. It is the people who never work for anything that are unhappy…

When I planned out my life, it was kind of true for almost true for all people seeing my teacher also shows the post that I saw just reinforced the idea life will continue to be a struggle to achieve the goal of stability. Life will continue the earth will keep spinning even if the struggle you face is immensely and grew out of control to find that everybody struggles with something and trying to overcome something as a one man wrote at a time where it was illegal for him to learn to write or read wrote down “If there is no struggle, there is no progress” meaning that if there was no struggle for people we wouldn’t be able to enjoy what we have to change our perception on life to see. So I shall pull every hardship like stone placed it and every time until I have a monument to live a peaceful life but a quite…

“The call to adventure” deals with the experience to follow the quest that presents itself and the hero/heroine must decide whether they will embark on the journey or refuse the call. In Nineteen Eighty Four Winston’s “call to adventure” acts as his first act of rebellion. He buys a diary at Mr. Charrington’s store where he writes in it hidden out of site of the telescreens. Oceania faces a totalitarian government, “ The comprehensive and detailed control of all ideas, beliefs and statements demonstrates one of the most problematic features of a totalitarian regime” (Cassinelli 1) which further enables Winston’s need to hide his diary but behaves as an act of defiance. Moreover, The House of the Spirits expounds Esteban’s “call to adventure”…
