Why can’t you buy Chanel online?
For the love of God: why?
Ever logged on hoping to kill time by putting a Chanel 2.55 handbag into your basket, looking at it all afternoon before logging off again because you haven’t been paid yet?
No? No. We would never do that, either.
But only because the possibility does not exist, as Chanel does not sell so much as a pearl hairpin online. (Although their fragrance and beauty ranges are available on the internet).
Despite the fact that they are one of the world’s best loved luxury brands, and the fact that Karl Lagerfeld is a confirmed technophile, who even has an iPad for his pet cat, the Chanel website merely encourages customers to visit their nearest boutique.
Chanel’s president Bruno Pavlovsky explained why yesterday. He told the website The Business of Fashion that, ‘You need to be in the fitting room. You need to have a tailor who alters the clothes to fit exactly to your body. I think it's part of Chanel. It's more than just our service. It's part of our differentiation to have ready-to-wear that is perfect for our customers.’
Far be it from us to point out it hasn't put off millions of online shoppers who already simply return any ill-fitting designer items without batting an eye. But the brand who suggest a hula hoop bag for the beach are always going to do things a little differently.

If we will put a modern day’s woman as the Snow White character from the fairy tale in front of a mirror, she would ask the magic looking-glass: “Looking-glass upon the wall, what the fairest purse is for me along?” Author’s opinion, the fashion accessories’ idea comes from the fruition accomplishment in the complete outfit. As Charles Dickens put it in writing, “any man may be in good spirits and good temper when he’s well dressed.” Accessories are literally the flair of the final touches that glamorize feminine gender. Chic bags are without a doubt the fashion accessory of the moment.…

From 1920s till her death Chanel pioneered innovative designs for women. Almost singlehandedly introduced ‘sportswear, the poor boy look, designer perfume, suntans and the little black dress’ Her inspirations derived from ongoing change of society and a common man (explaining how the androgynous look developed). During late 1920s to early 1930s, Chanel was part of a group of well-dressed woman and gradually ‘everyone was copying her’ (Field 1983 pg.104). It was a new silhouette for women and the ‘most spectacular innovation brought about by Chanel’ (Charles-Roux). Coco Chanel chopped her hair to her chin for reason of simple upkeep, however the effect of it caused a formerly male cut to become a particularly stylish, feminine one. By simply trimming a few inches, Chanel brought ease to women struggling with long locks. At the time, long hair was the only style socially acceptable, and was difficult to keep looking polished. When asked about the designs of an up and coming designer, Christian Dior, Chanel bluntly replied, "Look how ridiculous these women are, wearing clothes by a man that doesn't know women, never had one, and dreams of being one". ("Coco"). By simply bashing the corsets so coveted by high fashion, Chanel influenced women to throw away the restrictive garments. Chanel suits were designed with both comfort and elegance in mind; for women out and about, making their way in the world. Her iconic suits were a business woman's staple. They boasted special pockets to hold cigarettes, and a certain powerful flair that allowed for women to feel powerful in a world dominated by the men. By chopping her long curls to a boyish bob, and taking a masculine fashion and fitting it to give a feminine élan, Chanel spit in the face of traditional fashion.…

CEO read about a quite revolution sweeping department store retailing. At stores such as Bloomingdale's and Bergdorf Goodman, managers put all salespeople on straight commission, Frances decide to give the system a yearlong try in two area stores.Such a plan, she reasoned, would be good for Kimbel's if it lived up to its promise of attracting better salespeople, iproving their motivation, and making them more customer oriented. It could also potentially be good for employees. Salespeople in departments such as electronics, appliances and jewelery, where expertise and highly personalized services paid off, had long worked solely on commission. But the majority of employees earned on hourly wage plus a meager 0.5 percent commission on total sales. Under the new scheme, all employees would earn a 7 percent commission on sales. When she compared the two systems, she saw that a new salesclerk in women's wear would earn $35,000 on $500,000 in sales, as opposed to only $18,000 under the old scheme. 1. What theories about motivation underlie the switch from salary to commission pay? 2. What needs are met under the commission system? Are they the same needs in the shoes and handbag department as they are in lingerie? Explain. 3. If you were Frances Patterson, would you go back to the previous compensation system, implement the straight commission plan in all Kimbel's stores or devise and test some other compensation method? If you decided to test another system what would it look…
