“Employees should keep their private lives and personal activities as separate as possible from the workplace.”

Many people think that personal life and professional life is one and the same, both work are two ways of road and hence should be carried on simultaneously. While some people think that personal life and professional life should never be combined as both are the two sides of a single coin. I agree with the latter statement and refute the former one. I agree with the author’s statement that employees should keep their private lives and personal activities as separate as possible from the workplace.

I feel that one must be equally committed to one’s personal and professional life as well. By this I mean that if due to any circumstances you are facing ups and downs in your personal activities, it should never reflect the work in your workplace or vice-versa. Hence, to work in a healthier workplace and to be committed your work, one must keep their personal lives far away from their workplace.

Firstly, I would give an example to support my point. An efficient hard working employee, who is also my friend, was very committed to her work. But unfortunately, due to some differences with her husband, she started taking a lot of stress not only at home, but also at office. As a result, she was unable to work efficiently at office; neither could she concentrate on her work. Many deals started going off her hands and therefore she was fired from her office. On the other side, without any job, she again was unable to concentrate on her family problems, due to which her husband got separated from her. With the help of the example, I completely agree that one’s personal life and professional life should always be on two other sides and not handed as a single matter.

Secondly, if you try to try to mix your both personal and professional life together, then the result will clearly be

People everywhere are faced with the unanswered question, “When am I working too much?”, “When do I stop?” Due to the constant increase in our cost of living, people believe they are forced into working longer and more demanding hours. People need to learn how to split their time and energy between work and the other important aspects of their lives. In the two essays, “Hit the Brakes”, by Christopher Dewolf and “Stupid Jobs”, by Hal Neidzviecki, it is shown that spending too many hours on your job, creates less time for a personal life, which creates many problems. Society has become obsessed with the demanding and vastly expanding workplace environment, so much so that quality time spent with self and loved ones, which is crucial to becoming a well rounded person, is often disregarded.…

For a work place to be cohesive and work as it should an employer cannot allow some of his employees to talk about non related issues that could potentially distract those that are working or put forward an image to the customers or clients that work comes second to leisure at their place of operation. It can be increasingly difficult for others to continue working when their peer in the cubicle next door is making plans for dinner or talking about personal issues. It can also make customers uncomfortable because the professional atmosphere is not available in the establishment. There is also the issue of the employee including others who are busy with clientele and alienating the customer by making them feel unappreciated and that their time and business is not being properly seen to.…

There is a very famous saying "Stretch the elastic only till the extent the elasticity doesn't get lost". We realize that we have failed in this aspect when either we have failed marriages or children whom we gave birth to but emotionally are not ours.
