Deaf Author Research
Once I first learned of our class, research paper on a deaf author my first thought was “wow where am I going to find a book written by a deaf author”, I can say that I was completely clueless that those that are deaf wrote books. But as I began researching more on deaf authors I began to realize what is there to stop them from writing a book or even anyone for that matter just because they may or may not have a disability does not mean that they are limited from doing things that those who aren’t deaf can do.
After all of my research I decided to write my book on Deaf like Me by Thomas S. Spradley . This book tells of a girl named Lynn born to a hearing family. This book chows the struggle that her two hearing parents went through trying to rise a deaf child and how eventually they after several attempts of trying to get Lynn to communicate with our sign language. The parents realize that learning sign language is the best for her.
Lynn’s mother Louise becomes ill with the German measles when she became pregnant with Lynn but was sure if Lynn would catch that disease or not while in the womb. The Rubella which is also known as the German measles is a virus which affects the lymph nodes. This virus is usually spread germs from the nose or throat that other breath in and can pass through a pregnant women and affect her unborn child. [continues]
