Alert 1 is when an aircraft is a minor difficulty and has a potential emergency (ex: oil leak, feathered prop). This type of alert will be on standby outside of Station 35.They will only go on scene if the alert is moved to an alert two by the commander. Alert 2 is when an aircraft approaching the airport is experiencing difficulty (ex: engine fire, no hydraulic pressure). The battalion chief, ARFF trucks, and side trucks will all show up to the emergency. Depending on where the aircraft is coming from the ARFF crew has certain standby positions that they must be at. For example, if the aircraft is landing on runway 16L/34R the first ARFF truck will be at Taxiway C, the second truck will be at Taxiway E and the third truck will be at Taxiway H. Once the aircraft has landed and passed the standby positions of the ARFF trucks they are to proceed behind the aircraft and remain with the aircraft until they are notified that the emergency has been cleared. Alert 3 is when an aircraft is involved in an accident near or within a 5-mile radius of the airport. This is considered a full alarm and all emergency personnel and ARFF trucks will arrive on seen as well as any other emergency personnel from other areas to help assist in the accident. During an alert 3, station 35 will communicate with the air traffic control center and if…

It is important to note the United States naval maritime strategy and understand the USMC’s role in it. Maritime strategy involves six key elements: forward presence, deterrence, sea control, power projection, maritime security, and humanitarian assistance and disaster response (Navy 19). In 2001 the Queensland Police Service (QPS) embarked on research to develop an incident command system (ICS), specific to QPS needs, to be utilised for the efficient and effective management of an incident regardless of size or scale (QPS 2016, p. 1.7). This was incorporated after consultation with operational managers and a review of a number of incidents, which identified the need for an ICS and relevant training to be implemented into the QPS training curriculum. QPS senior management identified an ICS developed in North America. After a 6 month trial the system was implemented in 2002. The main objective of the ICS was to allow a flexible process to facilitate an efficient, effective response to an incident, by formalising incident management…

The ports in the United States are not secure enough and we are still very vulnerable to terroristic attacks. This is significant to the emergency managers and homeland security practitioners because there are with more than 3,700 cargo and passenger terminals (Vesky, 2008). However, a large fraction of maritime cargo is concentrated at few major ports. Most ships calling at U.S. ports are foreign owned with foreign crews. Container ships have been the focus of much…

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section…

    The Desert Island Problem

    • 574 Words

The ss Minnow was a little cruise ship manned by a small crew and several groups of passengers. It was caught in a tropical cyclone which blew it thousands of miles off course for several days. In the second day of the storm, the radio and all communication means were destroyed after the ship had sent out a distress call, expressing the fear that the ship would go down. Many days later, after the ship had been tossed through the South Pacific, the ship ran aground on an island which the Captain realised was a remote and uncharted and probably undiscovered new volcanic island. The implication of all this is that eventual rescue is remote but cannot be ruled out if they survive long enough: search and rescue would be based on the last plotted position thousands of miles away on the belief that the ship may have sunk at that point; the island is not near any trade route. This is before the days of GPS and satellite tracking.…
