1.Introduction
Debre Markos University was established in 2005/2006 G.C. Soon after its establishment, the President and Academic Vice President were assigned to organize the University. Following this, 53 academic and 15 support staffs were employed. The University started its function admitting the first batch of 760 students in the then Education Faculty (now reorganized as Social Sciences and Humanities and Natural and Computational Sciences Colleges) in February 2007. The University runs undergraduate program in both regular and continuing education divisions. Students joining the regular program are assigned by the Ministry of Education from all corners of the country after they have successfully accomplished the preparatory school program. Continuing education program students, on the other hand, are selected by the university. In 2012 academic year, the University runs undergraduate programs in 25 disciplines in six colleges and one school; namely, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, College of Business & Economics, College of Agriculture & Natural Resources, College of Natural and Computational Sciences, College of Technology, College of Health Sciences and School of Law. Besides, to open additional disciplines need assessment is being made under the supervision of the Program Design and Development Directorate of the University. What is more the University has planned to launch postgraduate program in different disciplines in 2005 E.C. We live in an age of convergence – with technology driving connections that link people and ideas in unprecedented ways. In this dynamic environment, research libraries are poised to redefine themselves and the way they create, access and preserve knowledge. At DMU Library, we accelerate the research process through our collaborations with college and students. We promote scholarly expression by championing open access and other initiatives that bring the world’s knowledge to DMU, and connect DMU’s knowledge to the world. At the core of all we do is our commitment to user-centered service that advances teaching, learning and research excellence.

The Library, and the expertise vested within it, must both lead and adapt to face the challenges posed by our information-intensive age. Over the next five years, we will continue to develop our digital collections, and safeguard the knowledge legacies of the past, while ensuring accessibility for the future. We will harness new tools for information creation and discovery, and configure our services and spaces to meet our users’ needs.
