A Letter About What I have Learned This Semester in ENC1101 Class
Respected Professor,First of all, while informing us about this assignment, you had said that you do not want us to write anything we do not mean; thus, I hereby swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God. The first day I had walked into your class, I was down right nervous. Questions of all sorts kept popping up in my head: What if this class is not worth it? What if he is not a good professor? What if he is mean? What if I get a bad grade because I can not write? And more what ifs…However, as soon as you walked in the class with a bunch of papers in your hands, and a smile on your face, all my "What ifs" were answered. I came to the conclusion that I was going to enjoy this class, and soak in the experience. I have learned many things in your class, three of which have helped me in many other aspects as well.

To begin, throughout this course, I have learned a lot about myself and my writing. I have realized that the more I write, the better I get. You were right when you said that writing comes to you naturally if you do it often. I have noticed that when I write with my heart and soul, I better my writing, as well as myself. I never thought that I could write; thus, continuous writing has boosted up my confidence. You know, my favorite dialogue from "Finding Forrester" is when Forrester says: "Do not think. Just write. You write your first draft with your heart. The final draft, you write with your mind." I do not know about the others, but that is so true in my case! If I do not think on my first draft, I do a better job. Then, I fix it up using my mind, kind of like what I am doing right now. I would have never known that if it was not for your class, Professor. Writing is a skill, and to master it is like accomplishing a goal. I know that I have not mastered it yet, but I did receive a highly necessary encouragement from this course.

Next, I have come to acknowledge that the type of professor you have plays a major role in the journey of education. Now keeping my oath in mind, I say this from the bottom of my heart that you have been one of the best professors I have had for English. I have literally promised myself that if I ever become a professor, I will steal your ways! Call me copy-cat or a thief, but hey, it works! I think that students learn a lot better if their professor is a little laid-back. I know that I do not learn well if my professors are grumpy and over-focused. It helps when they know how to laugh and enjoy, and yet keep the class going. Before I took your class, a lot of people told me that you give a lot of work. Instead of getting discouraged, however, I got even more encouraged to take you class, because honestly, I do not think there is a better way to learn than actually doing the work. I totally agree with the quote from John Dewey: "I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand." Through writing so much in your class, I now know my weak points and what I have to work on.

Finally, I have started to feel that my world and my preparation for the world have also improved ever since I have taken this class. My world is surrounded by fantasies, fairy tales, and poems. This class has helped me improve my poems grammatically, and has helped me develop my creativity. I can now express myself better in my poems and to others around me. Also, no matter where I go, I need English, because it is one of the main languages of the world. This course has also availed me in preparing for other universities and jobs. SAT and ACT are my weaknesses, but when I took them during this course, I realized it was a lot easier than before. That has to be something! That just proved to me that this course with you was really worth it, and I am very glad that I got this opportunity to learn from you.

In conclusion, I have learned many things in your class, some of which have helped me in many other aspects as well. I have learned a lot about myself and my writing, and I am assured that after completing this course, I have improved. I have also come to acknowledge that the type of professor you have, plays a major role in the journey of education. I do not think I would want any professor for this course other than you. Finally, I have started to feel that my world and my preparation for the world have also improved ever since I have taken this class. I feel a lot more confident about my poems, and my SAT/ACT. This class has been a wonderful experience right from the very beginning! It was a pleasure being your student, and I hope you will not forget me after I leave. Thank you for everything, Professor, and just to reassure you, I did not go against my oath. I can not think of a graceful end at the moment, but what could be better than a heart full of thanks and a sweet goodbye?Yours sincerely.

From a self-evaluation, I believe the goal I had set for myself was reached. Techniques presented in the class were extremely beneficial, specifically rough drafts and outlines. Although the outlines and techniques practiced were basic, they were able to give me a clear example of what I wished to write about. This prevented my usual act of jumping the gun. Within this semester, it seemed ironic that we took more notes than any of my other classes; references towards jotting ideas, and creating outlines were the ultimate knowledge I gained from the class. However, there was a flaw that was revealed when writing. Combining the work I have completed, I noticed there was a large…

Before my arrival at Claflin University, I did not know what the college professors would expect from me in regards to my writing. In high school, the instructors taught the students about basic writing skills, but their teaching never went into depth. Therefore, most of the high school students in my class were not prepped with the knowledge that was required for a college English course. Despite the fact that I did not recognize my strength and weaknesses as a writer, I understood that I needed to improve my writing skills in general. After my third week in English 101, I realized that my writing suffered from the lack of details and vocabulary. All of this was revealed to me after my English professor, Dr. Ratliff, made corrections on my first essay. I appreciate the corrections that she made because if…

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. I have learned more in the five weeks of this dual enrollment class than I have in my previous years of both my middle school years and my freshman/sophomore year. My previous years have mostly been just trying to fine tune my acquired skills from elementary and middle school. Although, it has worked I still think that those courses did not allow me to flourish into the experienced writer than I am capable of becoming. The individual and collaborative techniques that professor Belmont has taught us have greatly heightened my skills in…

When choosing classes a person normally does not choose a class that they will regret or even cringe when thinking about the class. However, when you have no other choice and are required to take such a class then you must complete it. When I started this class I hated writing, my brain is just not set up for this and with attention deficit disorder my brain starts to wander. I am not going to use that as excuse or even a crutch I have had it long enough that I know how to work through it. Now that I have taken Writing 101s I have leaned a lot of structure and discipline and my writing has come a long way even though it is not perfect. I still…
