Essential Skills/Knowledge:
Mathematical goals or objective(s): By the end of this lesson, students will be able to measure objects by inches and variations thereof (half an inch and a quarter of an inch and a eighth of an inch). Students will also be able to use a ruler and read a ruler using inches.
2.MD.A.1: Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
2.MD.A.3: Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.

Rational/Context for Learning:
Measurement is an important skill to learn and understand because it is a math skill that is used in daily life at all different ages. The lesson will engage students’ interest because it is taught using games and fun activities to motivate students.

Technology Integration:
The teacher will use the Promethean Board at the beginning of the lesson to play the measurement game with the students at http://www.pbs.org/parents/education/math/games/first-second-grade/time-to-move/
Next, The teacher will then use PowerPoint to play ruler bingo with the students. The Promethean Board will show the PowerPoint slides and the students will have an individual board on their computer screens on PowerPoint.
