Topic : Short story : Beauty and the Beast
Skills : 3.3, 3.6, 3.9, 3.10 and 4.3
Language Aspect : Reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary
Learning outcome: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to : 1. Indicate the sequence of story that took place by rearranging the paragraph accordingly. 2. Summarise the story by filling in the blanks with the appropriate words given
Previous Knowledge : Students are familiar with the story from previous lesson
Moral Values : Love, compassion and sacrifice are important in life
Teaching Aids : Handouts

Stage(Allocation of time | Teaching/Learning Activities | Teaching Aids | Set Induction( 5 mins)To activate past knowledge and to cognitively prepare them for the lesson | Flask back. Teacher plays a recording of part of the story produced by the last year’s students in their readers theatre. Students have already heard the story from their previous class.Teacher asks students question pertaining to the characterE.g. Who is beauty? What happened to the Beast? | Recording of the story | DevelopmentStage 1( 15 mins)To test their understanding of the sequence of the events in the story( reading comprehension)Stage 2( 15 mins)To enable students to identify the vocabs given in storyStage 3( 20 mins)To check the understanding of the given task and to test students’ ability to complete the task given | Students listen to a full recording of the story. Teacher distributes handouts containing work sheet of the events. Students are required to number the events in the order that they occurred in the story. Students are given 7 minutes to complete this task. Students listen to the recording again and check their answers.Teacher discusses the answers with the studentsStudents are given another handout.
