Lesson 1-Personal Response

Agamemnon
I believe that Agamemnon is a protagonist character with selfish intentions in the play, Agamemnon. Although, he does make a few errors in his period of ruling. Overall, I believe he is a hubris person as he holds great pride in himself, his actions and his decisions. I believe that his intentions of his actions are only meant for his own benefit and that he believes no one else’s value should be more than his value. He has very little effect but, a very important role in the storyline. He could not have changed or effected any actions that occur from the moment of his victory from Tory to his death because of the mistakes he had committed early in his life, such as the sacrifice of his daughter. Despite his previous mistakes, he continued to make decisions for his personal advantage, such as bringing Cassandra as his Trojan princess.

Cassandra
I believe Cassandra is a woman of her word and her self-respect. She was brought to the Kingdom of Argos as a personal benefit for the King. She had no intention of being with him or responding to his demands. As she enters the Kingdom, she utters a curse on the house of Agamemnon. I believe this is because she was brought to become a mistress without her consent and with a heart full of rage towards Agamemnon. I believe any emotional strong woman would have done the same because this shows disrespect towards someone as an individual. She further continues her rage on Agamemnon and the Kingdom as her predicts three prophecies for the future. Her prophecies include that the King will be seen dead, she herself will die and a new avenger will enter the Kingdom. I cannot say how she had the ability to seek these prophecies for the future but, I believe it was done because of the torture and unwilling towards her entry into the Kingdom. Personally I believe that Cassandra’s story is the most powerful and that she contains the most powerful character in the play. This is because she

In conclusion, the novel Cassandra by Christa Wolf is focused and centered on the idea of even false idols serving their purpose which is to give people the strength and faith to pursue a specific as well as common goal. Furthermore, the irony presented in this novel highlights the idea that although Cassandra has less tolerance and is less acceptant of the false idols thus making her a mad woman in the eyes of everyone else, she still remains the one and only ready to accept and welcome the…

Thus Orestes interprets the prophecy as him killing his mother as revenge for his father’s death. Cassandra had foreseen this in Agamemnon, and it has come true in The Libation Bearers, as evidenced by Clytaemnestra’s dream and Orestes’ return and subsequent murder of his mother. Again, the prophecies from Agamemnon and The Libation Bearers are shown to be integral to the plot.…

In the first six books of the Iliad Agamemnon goes through the rite of passage, which evolves his character from a strong, centralized, authoritative leader to an incompetent selfish individual due to the crucible of beauty, the empowerment of Chryseis. The rite of passage of Agamemnon does not operate chronologically but starts with the state of liminality, his choice of rejecting ransom from Chryses, the separation, his diminishment as an extraordinary leader, and finally the partial fulfillment, his acquisition of Briseis leading to the rage of Achilleus.…

Conflict situations are an everyday occurrence. With the understanding of the underlying factors of positive and negative communication conducted in situations of conflict, will only enable one to become more solution oriented in times of battle. The three perspectives discussed in chapter two of Working through Conflict are the following: psychodynamic, emotion-based, and the social cognition perspective. The three perspectives each depict different situations of conflict and how to deal with each one separately. Even though, through classification, the perspectives are different; I would like to argue that all three, yet are still so very similar.…

The underlying theme to the fight with Agamemnon is the fact that the army commander is insulting the demi-god’s honor. Both men see the captive women as property but also as signs of honor and status. Agamemnon taking the prize, is therefore seen as the army commander suggesting he is more important and more deserving compared to Achilles. It is important to know that in ancient times, when polis city-states dominated the geography, honor and respect built loyalty and public recognition. Those attributes then in turn created the conditions necessary to obtain immortal fame.…

    Clytemnestra Deception

Clytemnestra, a very prevalent character in Aeschlyus’ play Agamemnon, stands as a center point among the most famous speeches in the history of Greek literature. Breaking with the traditions of other plays written during this time period, Clytemnestra wields considerable political power during the time period in which women were sidelines from affairs of the state. Possessing a “male strength heart,” as stated by the watchmen in the beginning of the play, Clytemnestra not only is able to attain political control but she also has the ability to deceive those that surround her. The chorus makes the queen’s deceiving ways apparent to the audience when noting to the Herald not to take everything Clytemnestra says at face-value, for they have learned…
