Throughout the history of NBA Basketball, we can find players who left their individual
footprints behind. Whether it be King James or Michael Jordan, Dwight Howard or ‘Big’ Shaq,
we can see how their hard work, on and off the court, paid off in their fame and glory. In recent
discussions among basketball viewers and fans, a heated debate has been on the issue of who the
greatest player to ever play basketball is. On one hand, some argue that Michael Jordan, a six–
time NBA champion is the best to ever step on that court. From this perspective, Jordan, who
won 6 NBA Championships, 14 MVP awards, 14 All-Star selections, and so many more is the
simply the “best” to ever play.
On the other hand, however, others argue that LeBron James, a growing superstar, is
much better than Michael Jordan is size, skill and success. In the words of Scottie Pippen, one of
this view’s main proponents, also happens to be Michael Jordan’s teammate, “Michael Jordon
is probably the greatest scorer to ever play in the game, but I may go as far to say LeBron James
is probably the greatest player to ever play the game…LeBron James will dominate the game
on the offensive end and he’s able to do it on the defensive end as well. He can get in those
passing lanes and dominate the game.” According to this view, LeBron James will not only
outrun Jordan in titles, MVP awards, and All-Star selections but will also snatch the title of being
the “best player to ever play” from Michael Jordan.
When it comes to the topic of greatest player to ever play basketball, most of us will
no one will ever match his level.
My view is that, although Michael Jordan was the greatest to ever play; LeBron James
could very well get to his level someday. LeBron is only 26 and has done exactly what Michael
Jordan did or maybe even better. But LeBron James has done it in a harder stage with fiercer
