My teeth chattered as I heard the lady on the microphone prompt it was time to get on the airplane to come to the United States. I remember the day I left my country. It was very sad because I was leaving my life long friends, some members of my family, my country, and especially the city where I was born. Above all, I was in high spirits, feeling, living life to the fullest, and not even realizing that the redundant moment was coming as fast as the lighting touching ground. It seems like yesterday when I left home, Colombia was everything for me, maybe, because my life, mother, and love existed there.   The saddest thing I believe was leaving my mother in Colombia by herself, and I remember that she didn’t go to the airport, that was the worst feeling, worst than losing your most precious thing on earth. Now I want to talk to you about my personal experience when I was leaving my country, and share with you those heartbreaking moments at home, the airport, and when I arrived in the U.S.
The day before I left, there was a mess in my house. Family and friends were coming to say goodbye. My house was always the place where all the family used to meet, that's why all my friends and relatives were upset. That night aunt bought alcohol for the older ones and sodas for us the kids. My brother and my mother were packing the bags. This was a very sad moment; everybody was crying and hugging each other. When everyone left my home I started to pack my bags because I hadn't done them before. It was 3:00 o'clock in the morning when I was finally finished packing my bags. I had to be at the airport at 5:00, and then I got ready to go there. My friends picked me up, and took a video camera with them to record every moment of my last day in Colombia.
