Staff Duty NCO Procedures for Signing Personnel in from or out on Leave
SOP Number 001-14

1. PURPOSE: This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is a Unit specific Leave and Pass procedure for signing personnel in from or out on leave outside normal duty hours.

2. APPLICABILITY: All assigned and attached Detachment Personnel.

3. REFERENCES: AR 600-8-10, Leave and Passes, 04 August 2011.

4. RESPONSIBILITIES: A. The SDNCO must ensure that the Soldier taking leave physically signs out at the unit. B. The SDNCO must ensure that Soldiers taking Ordinary/Emergency Leave are not given the original leave form once they are signed out. C. The SDNCO must ensure that Soldiers that are PCS’ing or taking Transitional/Terminal leave are given the original leave from back and a copy is retained for the unit.

5. PROCEDURES: A. For Soldiers that are PCSING/Retiring or taking Transitional leave sign the soldier out in block 14 a-c and give the original DA Form 31 to the soldier and make a copy for the Unit to retain. B. For Soldiers that are taking Ordinary Leave, PTDY or Convalescent Leave sign the Soldier out in block 14 a-c and keep the original signed A-31 for the unit and give a photocopy to the Soldier to keep on them. 6. SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS: A. DO NOT GIVE A SOLDIER TAKING ORDINARY LEAVE OR PTDY OR CONVELESCENT LEAVE, THE ORIGINAL DA FORM 31 UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
