According to, the learning style inventory I am a tactile visual learner. Tactile learners learn more from being hands on and that is definitely the best way for me to learn. I do agree strongly with the tactile learning style. I definitely learn by touching and always need to be hands on. I can do almost anything after I have done it one time. Visual learners learn from seeing things done. I do feel like I learn some things visually but mostly by being hands on with things. I do agree that there are things that I learn better from watching someone else do them first, but the I have to do them myself immediately to really have it sink in. I can usually remember things that I have seen but I do remember things better if I have the opportunity to handle them.
Being a tactile learner has hindered me in a conventional classroom. I always need to be hands on and have been labeled as a disruptive student since grade school. I have had to change the way I learn things to fit what other people think it should be and this has caused my grades to suffer. I really enjoyed high school chemistry because the class was so hands on and I got to use my learning style to the full potential. I enjoy any type of class that allows me to be hands on in my learning. I can learn some things by just watching, for example, if I drive somewhere once I can go back there but if I am riding in the car and not driving I can’t remember how to get there. I can still remember, after twenty years, how to dissect a frog. I learned this in high school biology, but I do not remember anything else I learned in that class because the dissecting was a hands on activity.
In the future, I will make sure to always have something available to write with and paper to write on as this helps me to be hands on without being disruptive to others. I will try to figure a way to incorporate the visual aspect of my learning more in my classroom learning. I could try to make the learning into a mini-movie to myself... [continues]
