MACBETH
“In literature, evil often triumphs but never conquers.” I think this means that evil may seem as if it won but in the end it will be defeated. I agree with this statement. This quote applies to Macbeth by William Shakespeare written in the genre of a play. The setting began in Scotland. Scotland is in chaos. The personal servants of the gracious and noble King Duncan had brutally murdered him. The king’s two sons Malcolm, the prince of Cumberland and his brother Donalbain, have both fled. Everyone suspects the sons of ordering their childhood friends, the servants to murder their righteous father the king; however, what no one knew was the real culprit Macbeth who is the main character in the play. He became king shortly after Duncan’s death. Now that Macbeth is king his true colors began to show. From after Macbeth unrightfully became king, Macbeth was known as a brutal and evil maniac. But even though Macbeth had lost his noble reputation it still seemed as though “evil” had triumphed because Macbeth became king. Macbeth had done a lot to become king. He murdered his cousin, King Duncan and anyone else who he thought would reveal the truth that he was true murderer. He also went against his ethics. Two of the people Macbeth ordered to be murdered were his honorable friend Banqou, and Banquo’s son Fleance. Macbeth murdered Banquo for two reasons. The first reason was his fear of Banquo’s nobleness. In Macbeth’s soliloquy he states, “There’s something noble about him (Banquo) that makes me fear him. He’s willing to take risks, and his mind never stops working. He has the wisdom to act bravely but also safely. I’m not afraid of anyone but him…” Macbeth is worried that Banquo will reveal that Macbeth killed King Duncan since Banquo suspected Macbeth. Another reason was because Banqou was told by three evil witches that, “Thou shalt get kings, thought thou be none” so Macbeth figured that he should have Banqou murdered to stop Banquo...
