LEAGUE OF NATIONS:
CREATION: It was created after the end of WW1
PURPOSES: Its purpose is to maintain world peace and to ensure that war never broke out again
MEMBERSHIP: The most important members of the League of Nations were: Britain, France Italy and Japan. The USA didn’t join in and Germany and Russia weren’t allowed.
STRUCTURE: It was separated in three organs:
The General Assembly: It was like a parliament, in which each of the 42 countries had one vote, and they met once a year to decide on the organization’s policy.
The Security Council included 4 permanent members. They were Britain, France, Italy and Japan. They met more often and could take decisions on a majority vote.
The Secretariat prepared the agenda and published reports of meetings.

UNITED NATIONS ORGANIZATION:
CREATION:   It was created on the 1st of January, 1942, during WWII.
PURPOSES: Its purpose is to set up an international peace-keeping organization
MEMBERSHIP: There were 51 members at the beginning but by the 1960s there were 184 members.
STRUCTURE: It was separated in five organs:
General Assembly: in which all member nations meet. Almost all countries in the world are members. Here speeches are made on any issue and each country has one vote.
The Security Council: It is the active part of the UN. Its members meet regularly to deal with crisis as they happen and recommend action. The US, the USSR, Britain and China are permanent members. Other countries in rotation also serve in the Security Council. Any of the permanent members can stop the Council acting. That is call VETO
The Secretariat: It’s headed by the Secretary-General and it provides studies, information, and facilities needed by United Nations bodies for their meetings. It helps to resolve international disputes, administering peacekeeping operations, organizing international conferences, gathering information on the implementation of Security Council decisions, and consulting with member governments...
