Reflections on the encourage the heart
Defining leadership is never an easy task because the definition changes from person to person depending on their life experiences. True leadership has its own intrinsic rewards; they come as we learn to work with others not through intimidation and control but through cooperation and recognition. According to Pastor. Heath McCoy “Leadership is the art of influencing and directing others in such a way as to obtain their willing obedience, confidence, respect and loyal cooperation to accomplish the mission of the organization.”
This paper will discuss the importance of one of the leadership traits: encouraging the heart. The first objective of this paper will be to briefly talk about the trait. The second aspect of this paper will be to share how I have used this trait as a student leader can use in my leadership.
The final leadership trait that Kousez and Pozner talk about is encouragement of the heart. Many times, achieving a goal without any type of encouragement is very difficult because it may feel like there is no support. Without judgment, the teens are able to open up and be themselves and with the right encouragement from the leaders, can ultimately be the best way to boost their confidence. Too often, simple acts of human kindness are often overlooked and underutilized by people in leadership positions. Encouraging the heart is important as a servant leader, and Jesus modeled that. Jesus is the greatest leadership role model of all time. Encouraging the heart does not only involve recognizing individual achievements; it also means celebrating the efforts of the entire group.
People want to be encouraged. In fact, there is a whole class of people who will follow an encouraging leader even when the leader has no other qualities.
