LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ACTION PLAN

Being appointed Chief Security Office (CSO) and being responsible for my company’s success during this time of significant change would require some major changes within me and my leadership skills. One of the most important attributes of a successful leader is self-knowledge about their distinctiveness and areas that require improvement.
I came to the realization that I need improvement in at least three areas to be a successful leader as a CSO. The leadership areas that I noticed that would require improvement toward my leadership development is, Managing Stress, Gaining Power and Influence, and Developing Self Awareness.
These areas are the most important areas to me that I need improvement in order for my company to be successful and others would know they have a good leader to follow. This is my Leadership Development Action Plan that would guide me into becoming an effective CSO.
Managing Stress
According to Developing Management Skills, Developing the skill of managing stress, therefore, can have significant payoff. The book also states that the ability to deal appropriately with stress not only enhances individual self-development but can also have an enormous bottom-line impact on entire organizations. One of my stressors is time management. During my work hours I am bad at managing my time and getting all assignments done and in a timely fashion. I mostly sit behind my desk working on not so important things and toward the end of the day I would work on my important assignments. I also procrastinate at times. I never finish more than one project this way. When something urgent is needed to be done right away I often find myself stressed, because I still have other things on my desk to be done, there may be a last minute meeting that I have to attend or I am needed to

There are five leadership skills that are essential to acquire as a leader. These skills can help overcome complicated problems and issues that a leader could face on a daily basis. Skills such as collaboration rather than heroics and building and mending relationships; these can help with learning different ways to approach others in the organization as well as engage and motivate. Choosing the way to manage between being heroic and being engaging will determine what type of a leader one is going to grow into. Change also involves relationships, and maintaining a good relationship with others in the workplace is not an easy task. However, the task becomes easier when one tries to learn about what others enjoy, what they strive in, and by taking this information and analyzing it, the leader can find ways to build the relationship and fuel the relationship, come up with new ideas for building relationships, etc.…

In order for a church to carry out its mission it needs effective leader/leadership. But what is leader/leadership? In spite all that has been said about leadership there is no universally accepted definition of a leader/leadership. Perhaps the next best definition of Christian leader is taken from The Making of a Leader by Bobby Clinton: “a person with God-given capacity and God-given responsibility who influences a group of followers toward God’s purposes for the group.”(p.127). In my own words this is someone who follows the example of Christ and does so in a way that influences others.…

Pastor Dr. Stacy Spencer reminds us every class that “all of us have room and that’s room for improvement”. I believe this with everything in side of me which calls my attention to the five areas of Exemplary Leadership. Within those areas of leadership there is one area that I may focus on and pay close attention to as I am developed into a great leader. There are other areas that I have to improve in and continue to sharpen my tools, but this area requires the most attention. When it comes to the area of “Challenge the Process” this is my weakest area in the Exemplary Leadership Module. This area is the weakest because when operating in this area you have to make moves and take risk. I understand that God has not given us the spirit of fear…
