Leadership Dead poets society
Welton Academy was known for its prestigious teaching but rough and strict education. Their 4 pillars were Tradition, Honour, Discipline and Excellence. In 1959, John Keating, an unconventional English literature teacher, arrived in the school. The movie demonstrated Mr Keating’s personality and leadership as an alternative to the authority figures. It shows how he deeply influences his students especially, Neil Perry, Todd Anderson and Charlie Dalton.
Mr Keating leadership traits can be discussed under the following headings:
1. Vision
Mr Keating has a global vision of what he wants to achieve with his students. He knows how he will lead them to achieve it.
He arrives very relaxed in class, begins to whistle which was meant to appeal the student's attention. Teaches in unconventional ways by not following 100 years of conventional education like his predecessors have done, he chooses an alternative: teach the students how to become free men and “seize the day”. For example, First lesson was done outside the classroom showing them how life is short using the pictures of the former students who has passed away. The objective was to make the students become free thinkers, and push them to dare express their opinions, experiment life “Carpe Diem” and follow their dreams.
In another class, he will ask his students to get up on his desk, just to demonstrate interest of stepping forward to have a different vision of the situation. This class will teach the students the importance of considering all different opinions, to have a global view of a case before doing something.
2. Value
He demonstrated respect, integrity, sense of humour and availability. These attributes are what made the students trust him and can count on him for support.
He was steadfast on his teaching methods and his goal for his students to have the ability to think for themselves, even when his belief was against the strict teaching code of the school. He was frank and strong enough to

They are; tradition, honour, discipline, and excellence. The academy believes that these four pillars are the best way to lead a good life as well as properly teach. Tradition express the will and want to do things the way they have almost always been done. This provides the academy with a sense of security and well founded inclination. Yet, we know now that these traditional methods are not the most effective methods of teaching and that if anything they only begin to harm the student. Honour goes hand in hand with the pillar of tradition in a way as Welton Academy, and especially Dean Nolan expects their students to reach these traditional values. When Todd Anderson stands up and salutes Mr. Keating with an “Oh Captain- My Captain” he demonstrates an extreme amount of courage, unfortunately, this action will probably end in the eventual expulsion of the…

In society there are leaders for examples Presidents and Prime Ministers. These leaders need to have certain characteristics, which include respect, maintaining order, and to protect the people. When these leaders start to ignore their responsibilities the society starts to get uncontrollable and mistakes will happen. For an example when leaders ignore protection and safety their actions undermine the groups ability to function, also when leaders ignore respect their actions undermine the groups ability to function. All of this happens in the story written by William Golding Lord of the Flies. All in all when leaders ignore their responsibilities their actions undermine the groups ability to function.…

For ancient time, teachers have played an important role in society. Behind every successful person, there is a teacher. Nowadays, both parents are too busy earning money because of the high living expenses, so the teacher is expected to build a strong moral character and provide emotional support for the students. To achieve this, by the definition of John Lembo who is the author of “Why Teachers Fail,” has four qualities: (1) “he can engage students in an open and trusting relationship by his capacity to listen and accept; (2) he is skilled in the use of different diagnostic, planning, facilitative and evaluative procedure and is knowledgeable about their limitations; (3) he is experimental in his general attitude toward identifying and providing appropriate learning conditions; and (4) he can look at his own beliefs, feeling and behavior openly and can find ways to make them more constructive to himself and others.”(Lembo) Dewey Finn is a substitute teacher after he gets fired from his own band in School of Rock. At the beginning, he accepts the job by pretending to be his best friend Ned Schneebly who is supposed to be the substitute teacher of the prestigious prep school, Horace Green. Finn eventually turns the outstanding students from Horace Green to a group of rockers. The process is adventurous, meaningful and touching. However, He meets the four qualities of a competent teacher which are definite by Lembo. He promises a trustful relationship with his students; he finds out what his students’ talent and does not waste it; he brings rock to the class and teaches his students what they cannot find in a proper pre-school; and he is awareness of his own mistake.…

Mr. John Keating taught his students about how you need to look at things from a different perspective. They stood on a desk and looked around. It was showing how the students only see thing one way, as opposed to seeing things multiple ways. Growing up in strict families, the boys couldn’t really think how they wanted to. He also introduced them to carpe diem. It means seize the day.…

history teacher who, through my eyes, always acted as a performer living out all of America’s greatest events right before our eyes. To say the least, I remembered most of his lessons because of the excitement that he created with his movements and voice changes as he discussed the American Revolution or World War II. What made his class more enjoyable was the fact that there was trust between us and him; we could ask anything without feeling as if we were wasting time. We were pushed to ask the questions, we were given an environment were asking was questions is a good thing that allows us to gain a better understanding of out world. Creating a judge-free environment is my number one goal as educator because I believe that more trust is developed when students feel comfortable to share their thoughts, questions, and concerns. Over all, this teacher opened my eyes to a new form of educating; performing while lecturing and instilling trust within his students. I want to create this same environment as an educator and create bonds with my students where we are free in questioning what they do not understand or need help in. In my classroom creativity and unity will flourish by acting lessons out and creating bonds where we all feel comfortable in experiencing art in new and different…

Education is the imparting and acquiring of knowledge and for that, there are teachers. I think a good teacher is able to teach students and make them interested in whatever the teacher is teaching. Because of that, Mr. Keating, to me, is not only a good teacher, but an excellent teacher. In the school where Todd and Neil go, they believe that a way to produce a good student who is intelligent and disciplined is through strict rules and punishing. Both Neil's dad and Mr. Nolan think this is the way to go. Mr. Keating has very different ideas than those. Mr. Keating taught his students poetry and at first, the students were not too interested but once Keating really got into it, they began to like it which is something that is hard…
