leadership
Leadership may be defined as “influencing and directing the performance of group members towards achieving goals of the organization.” (Stimpson and Singh, 2007). Leadership skills are those attributes possessed by persons with leadership roles. Ms Room must exercise these even though she only has one person to lead. Clear communication can be used to inspire her worker. Also, communication maybe used to ensure that workers know the goals of the business and know their part to accomplish them. Critical thinking involves logical and unbiased decision making that is free from personal gain. So here one can see that when Ms. Rooplal follows the four requirements for decision making, successful decisions will be made displaying effective leadership and failure to do so will bring about bad decisions being made which displays poor leadership. Another leadership skill is listening. Communication is not one way. Effective communication involves both sending and receiving messages. Listening is a very important leadership skill as without it, the company will lose up-to-date information about the position of the business with respect to customer’s reviews from the persons providing customer service. Also, it will not work as a motivational factor as the worker will not feel included in the decision making process. The main types of leadership styles include autocratic, democratic and laissez faire leadership. Some say the perfect leader comprises of elements of all three. An autocratic leader is one who implements his or her own decisions with little to no consultation with their employees. A democratic leader is one who listens to the ideas of his/her employees and then a decision is made by consensus. A laissez faire leader is one who lets his employees do whatever they want by letting them implement their own ideas. No structured work is given and he/she may not even report to the office every day.

Leadership can be categorized in three different ways. These ways are Authoritarian, Democratic, and Laissez-Faire type leadership. Those who lead in an authoritarian manner are those who give orders and have things done their way and their way only. Democratic leaders strive to gain a consensus from others and are open to others ideas before making there final decisions. A leader who demonstrates laissez-faire type leadership is one who is highly permissive and provides little or no direction and gives others as much freedom as possible.…

Everyone has probably played the game "Follow the Leader" back in elementary school. It is a game where the leader stands in front of the line. He or she can say or do anything, and her followers (standing in a straight line behind her) must repeat exactly the same thing he or she does or says. Whoever was picked to be the leader must have loved the experience because one had the freedom to do whatever they please, while others followed miserably or happily depending on what the leader is saying or doing. However, if one was the follower, one would wait anxiously to be the next chosen leader. At the same time, one must somehow express his or her self in a fashion that will make them stand out from the rest of the students. Whether he or she is perfectly imitating the leader or behaving really respectfully of others. Nonetheless, who determines who should be the leader? What kind of characteristics must a leader possessed? What makes a great leader (Robbins, 2005)? Is there only one kind leadership? These questions will be answered as you continue to read on. In addition, you will come across case studies, real life experiences, and my own observation on how leaders in my work setting exhibit leadership behavior and how followers respond to it.…
