Leader Essay

Being hired on at a new corporation as a young leader fresh out of college, would make anybody feel great. Until you found out all the problems that you would have to face on that job. Please understand that when you take a new position onto new corporations, and you come in as a high salaried paid Manager or CEO fresh out of college you’re in for a rude awakening. What you have to do is put yourself in the employee’s shoes who have been at that corporation for the longest, and that has been applying for a new job because they feel because they’ve been there for so long then they automatically qualify. But you walk in fresh out of college with no experience at this corporation; off course they will be mad at you. They will not listen to anything you have to say, and once you go to talk to them about being teamwork, they have an attitude with you. Becoming a young leader can bring a lot of stress and anger, how? Being a young leader means that all eyes are on you, because when the manger hired you, he felt that you were the leader to take this company to the next level. But if you can’t produce even if everyone on the job is giving you hell, then you become a pain to the company because they have lost money investing in you. Being a young leader at a new corporation you can’t go running into your boss offices crying telling them that the people that they put under you will not listen or obey, because being a leader you have to know who you are and your role. So that means that you will have to make sum leadership choices, because its either you become a leader and make the right cuts and changes which being a young leader is difficult, or you will be let

Everyone has probably played the game "Follow the Leader" back in elementary school. It is a game where the leader stands in front of the line. He or she can say or do anything, and her followers (standing in a straight line behind her) must repeat exactly the same thing he or she does or says. Whoever was picked to be the leader must have loved the experience because one had the freedom to do whatever they please, while others followed miserably or happily depending on what the leader is saying or doing. However, if one was the follower, one would wait anxiously to be the next chosen leader. At the same time, one must somehow express his or her self in a fashion that will make them stand out from the rest of the students. Whether he or she is perfectly imitating the leader or behaving really respectfully of others. Nonetheless, who determines who should be the leader? What kind of characteristics must a leader possessed? What makes a great leader (Robbins, 2005)? Is there only one kind leadership? These questions will be answered as you continue to read on. In addition, you will come across case studies, real life experiences, and my own observation on how leaders in my work setting exhibit leadership behavior and how followers respond to it.…

Unethical leadership behavior involves acts which are illegal, or morally inappropriate to larger society (Jones 1991). There are variety of unethical leader acts such as abusive supervision( Tepper, 2000), supervisor undermining (Duffy et al., 2002), toxic leadership (Frost, 2004) and tyrannical leadership (Ashforth, 1994). Unethical leaders are normally oppressive, abusive, manipulative and calculatingly undermining (Tepper, 2007). For example, if his/her employees did something wrong or did not actually follow his/her instruction, an unethical leader would start to punish them instead of leading them to the right track. Also, scholars estimate unethical leader behavior costs U.S. corporations billions of dollars a year due to increased absenteeism, health care costs, lost productivity and costs came along with claims (Detert et al., 2007; Tepper, Duffy, Henle, & Lambert, 2006). At my work with various experience non college workers and others, a repeated debate raised with the theme “Young College Leaders Are Ineffective”. With researches, written articles and personal experience there is no doubt that “Young leaders are usually less effective because they have so little experience”. Matter of fact, it’s uncommon for us as older leaders to view younger leader as less effective than expected. From what my team had previously experienced before taking over as an administrator can clearly show that young leaders’ focus on leadership success rather than effectiveness. Besides being in the army over ten years my current position as an administrator allows me to serve in a capacity as a leader over 300 workers, which includes competent and incompetent workers therefore my experience can serve as a base for my agreement.…

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other”—John F. Kennedy. The characteristics of being a leader are infinite. If an individual can not listen he or she will have a hard time being a leader. Listening is the key aspect of learning and learning is the key aspect of being responsible; a leader must be able to listen, learn, and be responsible if he or she expects anyone to follow his or her example. Working hard to represent my school well has taught me to be a successful leader.…
