Unethical leadership behavior involves acts which are illegal, or morally inappropriate to larger society (Jones 1991). There are variety of unethical leader acts such as abusive supervision( Tepper, 2000), supervisor undermining (Duffy et al., 2002), toxic leadership (Frost, 2004) and tyrannical leadership (Ashforth, 1994). Unethical leaders are normally oppressive, abusive, manipulative and calculatingly undermining (Tepper, 2007). For example, if his/her employees did something wrong or did not actually follow his/her instruction, an unethical leader would start to punish them instead of leading them to the right track. Also, scholars estimate unethical leader behavior costs U.S. corporations billions of dollars a year due to increased absenteeism, health care costs, lost productivity and costs came along with claims (Detert et al., 2007; Tepper, Duffy, Henle, & Lambert, 2006). Toyota crisis

With this Crisis the CEO, Akio Toyoda delegated the task of reassuring American consumers to executives of the company that was already in the United States, instead of him doing it himself. James Lentz, the president and chief executive officer of Toyota Motor Sales, was the leader, he was delegated to reassure the American’s that the company had developed a fix for accelerator pedals that could stick in 2.3 million recalled vehicles (Tabuchi, 2009). When the first complaints came in Toyota they did not know how to handle them. Lentz, went on the Today Show and according to Business Insider looked like a “deer in headlights.” The CEO Akio Toyoda waited weeks for issuing an apology and he only did so after being cornered by a reporter. After Lentz spoke on the Today Show the amount of people that would not buy a Toyota went from 37% to 56% (Kaleb, 2012). Since Lentz went on the Today Show it brought questions to why Toyoda was unavailable to address the crisis, Lentz than seemed to be the leader of solving this crisis. Paul Argenti; professor of corporate communications at the Tuck School of Business at Darmouth stated “I am shocked at how badly they have handled this, you would expect a company of this size and stature to roll out a plan to repair problems that have the…

Strategic Human Resource (SHRM) management is human resource management with a strategic edge, linking both business strategy with human resource (HR) strategy of an organization. Human resource management has become an integral part of almost all the companies all over the world. Human resource management concerns not only how peoples are managed but also how managing people could maximize the competitive advantage in that market sector (Tyson, 1991 p2). Business strategies are defined as a strategy of a particular business unit (Tyson 2000, p66). Human resource(HR) strategy is a series of policies and programs designed to achieve a people management objective (Tyson, 2000 p66) .SHRM on a broader term is a overall sense of mission and direction, an appreciation in general terms of where the company is going and why. This may include articulation of core values, distinctive competencies and corporate vision. SHRM also focuses on translating the complex and dynamic set of internal and external variables, which an organization faces, into a future oriented framework which can then be implemented on a day to day basis (Watson, 1999). In the subsequent paragraphs, This study tries to explain why and how different automobile companies adopt different business and HR strategies. For this study focuses on works of two authors Porter (1980) who has classified business competitive strategy into three types: cost leadership, differentiation, and focus and of that of Schuler and Jackson (1987) who has classified business strategy into three types: cost reduction, innovation, and quality enhancement (Huang 1999). At the end it would try to reach at an particular point where by the help of the practical and secondary data it can identify the best HR and Business practices.…
