Late attendance at work is controllable. All employees are expected to be at work, on time, all the time. Late attendance is a failure to report and remain at work as per schedule, meaning late arrival at work. In my personal opinion, the findings of this survey would be very useful at any workplace. Both employer and employee need to realise what are reason and to rectify the root of the problem. Whether it is an acceptable excuse or, avoidable or unavoidable, the only exceptions to this are holidays, vacations, death in the immediate family, approved leaves of absence, and days for which no work is schedule. This is because if the employee didn’t come to work on time it will cause a lot of escalating problems such as among workplace staff, upper level management and public image. To be in their shoes are not easy but to be on others shoes that come on time are even more difficult. The late attendees’ must be reasonable to put others than themselves. The regular late attendees’ are plain selfish. It is just a matter of discipline. This report is to know and improve the late attendance at work place. Below are, my hypothesis before the distribution of the survey.
Hypothesis 1: Traffic Jam is the main reason of being late. Hypothesis 2: Employee should move nearer to workplace to avoid late attendance.
PROBLEMS THAT OCCURS BECAUSE OF LATE
There are varies reason I chose this topic as I feel the need to know basic reason of being late to work. As I was thought by many wiser people, being late is a sign of non-loyalty to the organization and the person is for sure to not be liked in the organization. For me, I was taken aback by the work culture in my current workplace. I would really like to find out the root of the problems and have to solve it. Being late may escalate to a lot of more problems relating not only the management and the employee but within all the people that touches the employee’s work life. For my job scope which is the front-liner of a telecommunication company, customer will always be the best and the first to judge. Customers will complaint due of late attendance, because they will have to wait for the employee to start operating in the morning. The relationship between the customers and the employee will be tarnished. Dissatisfaction among colleagues in the workplace is a common situation in regards to some employee’s selfishness. The disgruntled staff may retaliate by doing the same or complaint it to the management to take action. This situation will tarnish the morale and the working environment which leads to having a bad image in the company and to the employees themselves. The employer on the other hand will have to take some kind of punishment as it is not fair for others if the person gets away with the behaviour. By doing that the motivation level of that particular employee may go lower. This study is also to know roughly what the employee needs to stay motivated and go to work without late attendance.
B. TERMS OF REFERENCE
This report is to know the basic information of late attendance to work. In the survey, raw data of demographic, the reason why of late attendance and how to overcome the problem were collected. This report was requested in 4th December 2010 for the purpose of my manager En. Haizi Bin Mohd Khair to gain more understanding of his personnel being late to work.
