Chemotherapeutic Agents of Control:

Introduction:

Chemotherapeutic agents are chemical substances used to treat various forms of infectious diseases. The chemotherapeutic agent works by stopping the bacteria from reproducing. There are two different kinds of chemotherapeutic agents. The first kind is an antibiotic, which slow down the growth of microorganisms. The second kind of chemotherapeutic agent is synthetic drugs. Synthetic drugs are artificially made in a laboratory. Chemotherapy began in the 1940s and is now a multi-billion dollar industry.
Different antibiotics and synthetic drugs all have different modes of actions and can have several different possibilities of side effects. Antibiotics work by finding something in the pathogen that is different in the host cell and attacks it to stop the pathogen from reproducing and causing more harm. The side effects can range from loss of hearing all the way to discoloration of the teeth. Some may take these drugs and have no side effects at all except to obtain better health. While others may no receive any good from the medication and have horrible side effects. The mode of action also has a wide range of possibilities depending on which drug is taken. The mode of action can range from inhibition of the cell wall all the way to destruction of the cell membrane and much more. Each and every chemotherapeutic agent varies with their antimicrobial activity. This is needed because every disease is very different.

Purpose:

The purpose of this experiment is to determine that different chemotherapeutic agents are needed to treat different kinds of diseases. Since there is a wide range of possibilities this experiment is needed to determine which medication is best for certain types of microbial metabolism. This way we can evaluate the antimicrobial’s reaction to different chemotherapeutic agents. What reaction will the antimicrobial have on the chemotherapeutic agents that will be used in this

    1. The Respiratory exchange ratio is the ratio of the volume of carbon dioxide produced and oxygen consumed. The ratio indicates the energy that the subject is expending for indirect calorimetry, how efficient the subject 's body is at utilizing the oxygen inhaled, as well as the main substrate being used for energy during varying intensities of exercise. During rest the volume of carbon dioxide was 0.73L/min, the volume of oxygen was 0.84L/min. The RQ or RER was 0.87. Based on Table 5.1(Kenney,Wilmore, &Costill, 2012; Physiology of Sport and Exercise(5th ed.) The ratio indicates that roughly 68% of the kcal that the subject was using came from carbohydrates and the remaining 32% of the kcal came from fat. During the 50W stage the volume of carbon dioxide was 2.2L/min and the volume of oxygen was 2.9L/min. The RQ was 0.79, which indicates that the 33% of the kcal that the subject was using came from carbohydrates and that 67% of the kcal came from fat. In the 100W stage the volume of carbon dioxide was 4.08L/min and the volume of oxygen consumed was 4.1L/min. The RQ came out o be 0.99, the substrate being used was only carbohydrates at this point. The 200w stage had a carbon dioxide volume of 7.91L/min and a oxygen consumed volume of 6.51L/min. The RQ was 1.2 which indicates that the body is producing more carbon dioxide than the oxygen being consumed. The substrate being used for energy again is only carbohydrates.…

Antibiotics are drugs that kill bacteria, fungi, and parasites. Alexander Fleming discovered the first antibiotic by serendipity. Most antibiotics work by preventing the cell wall from producing peptoglycan. There are two types of antibiotics. The first is bacteriocidal. It kills the bacteria directly. The second is bacteriostatic. This method stops the bacteria from multiplying.…

The antibiotic that was the most effective was Streptomycin. This was due to Streptomycin being an antibiotic that works on gram negative bacteria. Gram-negative bacteria are bacteria that do not retain crystal violet dye in the Gram staining protocol whereas Gram-positive bacteria are those that are stained dark blue or violet by Gram staining. The bacteria we used were E-coli that are a gram negative bacteria and the only antibiotic out of Penicillin and Streptomycin that will work is Streptomycin. Penicillin is also effective antibiotic but it will only work on bacteria that Is gram positive because it is an antibiotic that has been designed in order to just work on gram positive because the antibiotic itself is gram positive. We know that Streptomycin was most effect due to their being a bigger zone of inhibition. Streptomycin was also the most effective because it affects the protein synthesis whereas Penicillin affects bacterial cell wall synthesis. Penicillin lengthens the bacteria but it cannot divide it.…

A substance or drug is selectively toxic if the agent used in it is able to kill the microorganism that it is meant to without harm to the host that has taken the drug. This is very important to microbial agents in that it enables these agents to inhibit a microorganism by interacting with microbial functions or structures different from those of the host; thereby showing little or no effect to the host.…

Antibiotics:- antibiotics are medication which destroy or slow down the growth of bacteria, they are used to treat infections which are caused by bacteria. Most of the time the body’s immune system can fight off bacteria but in cases in which the body cannot antibiotics are used to destroy them. Antibiotics are either given orally, applied to the skin in ointment form or injected, this all depends on the type of infection the body is currently trying to fight off, for example skin infections are treated with ointment, oral antibiotics are used to fight of moderate infections and injective antibiotics are most commonly used in the hospitals and are reserved for serious infections.…

The number of cancer cases around the world has been increasing, and it is expected to increase to 24 million by 2035. The most commonly used cancer treatment is chemotherapy or chemo. Chemotherapy drugs are strong medicines that work to kill cancer cells. They can be divided into several groups based on factors such as how they work, their chemical structure, and their relationship to another drug. Knowing how the drug works is important in predicting side effects, because chemotherapy drugs kill healthy cells as well. As a result, people undergoing chemotherapy often have side effects, which can be uncomfortable. For example, the drug that we will use for our experiment is doxorubicin. It is one of the representatives of anti-tumor antibiotics…

In today’s modern world we have an abundance of different antibiotics at our disposal to be used for our diverse medical conditions. One such drug is Amicacin. Often administered intravenously, Amicacin is mostly used to treat bacterial infections. Another antibiotic medication used today is Rifaximin. This antibiotic is most commonly used for those who acquire travelers’ diarrhea, which is caused by E. coli. Yet another medication we use is Enoxacin. This antibiotic is used to treat urinary tract infections and gonorrhea. Finally, one of the greatest discoveries in the field of bacterial treatment is the antibiotic Penicillin. There are a plethora of drugs we use to cure our bacterial health problems this day in age, but Penicillin stands out from the rest.…
