Unit 5 Laboratory Report: Histology and Membranes: Experiment 3 (epithelial) and Experiment 4 (membranes)

Be sure to put all your answers in your own words, and provide references (including the lab manual) both in the abbreviated “in text” format for each answer and in a separate reference list at the end.

Purpose: What is the purpose of this exercise? Are there any safety concerns associated with this exercise? If so, list what they are and what precautions should be taken.
Experiment 3: Histology
Step 1: Exercise 1: Epithelial tissue/View the following slides from the lab kit slide box. 1.Simple squamous:
2.Simple cuboidal:
3.Simple columnar:
4.Stratified squamous:
5.Stratified columnar:
6.a. Pseudostratified columnar
b. transitional
Assignment 1: Exercise 1 (epithelial tissue)
A. Epithelial tissue-Slide descriptions (12 pts)
Write a short description (4-5 sentences) of what you see on each slide, including where specifically you see the cells in question in relation to other cell layers. How do these cells meet the definition of this kind of tissue? Include in your description the color(s) of the slide, the shape and arrangement of the cells, and identify and describe significant features present on the slide (cilia, appearance of nuclei, number of layers, fibers, etc. Write your description in such a way that another person could determine which slide you are describing. (See the 'Sample Lab 5 ' link for an example description). Drawings need not be submitted, 1.Simple squamous:

2.Simple cuboidal:

3.Simple columnar:

4.Stratified squamous:

5.Stratified columnar:

6.a. Pseudostratified columnar

Assignment 2: Questions: (6 pts)

1.Why is the study of histology important in your overall understanding of anatomy and physiology?

2.How are epithelial tissues named?

3.Why is some epithelium stratified?

4.Unlike...
