Los Angeles Lakers is a National Basketball Association (NBA) team based in Los Angeles, California. It is not only the successful NBA basketball team but also one of the earliest team joined NBA league. The Lakers is the reigning NBA champions after defeating the Boston Celtics in the 2010 NBA Finals 4 – 3. The Finals victory gave the franchise their 16th championship, placing them second in NBA history behind the Celtics’ 17. The Lakers also hold the record for NBA’s longest winning streak (33), set during the 1971 – 72 season. In addition, there were many players became famous or turned into super star when they played in Lakers, including George Mikan, Wilt Chamberlain. Four Lakers – Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant – have won the NBA Most Valuable Player Awards for a total of eight awards. Moreover, LA Lakers has created “Showtime Lakers” that attracted many fans. In order to increase the depth of their bench, they traded Farmer away and signed Steve Blake who is a much stable point guard and brings much higher team morale. Their major competitors for this season are Miami Heat and Boston Celtics. In the current Lakers team, it consists of 14 players - Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher, Ron Artest, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, Shannon Brown, Matt Barnes, Derrick Caracter, Devin Ebanks, Theo Ratuff, Joe Smith, Luke Walton and Steve Blake. Different member has different characteristics and role in this big team. For example, some of those are regular members, some of those are bench. Undisputed, Kobe Bryant is the key player in this team, and he has won 5 times NBA champions. His position is shooting guard and captain in the Lakers. In the process of game, he is as a formal leader in the team. Kobe Bryant is an active, studious, confident and passionate person, but sometimes he is arrogant. For example, in the moment of truth, he did not like to pass the ball, and he would shot the match point; because he wanted to be the hero of the game. When he got the match point, sometimes he would say some word or do some immoral movements to provoke the competitors. However, Kobe is a comprehensive player; because he is skillful at shooting, layup, foul shot, defense, organize and so on. Pau Gasol is from Barcelona Spain, his position is power forward. He has won the 2001 - 2002 NBA best rookie players. Gasol is a very practical, stable, and clever player. He is good at jump shot, hook shot and block shot. The point guard of the Lakers is Derek Fisher. His NBA career has spanned more than 14 years, during which he has won 5 times NBA Championships. Fisher is an experienced and dispassionate old player, his pass usually provide a good chance to score. Ron Artest is a defensive specialist and his position is small forward. He was named the NBA Defensive Player of the year and was an All-Defensive First Team selection in the season of 2003 – 2004. He is known for his sometimes eccentric and outspoken behavior. He is easy to get angry and cannot control his emotion. Andrew Bynum elected to enter the NBA directly from high school .He was drafted 10th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2005. He played in the center. Obviously, he is a young player and lack of the game experience, but he has an excellent physical attribute. Therefore, his dunk shot and rebound are pretty good. The other members are important bench, and they have different characteristics. Some of those have rich experiences, and some of those have plenty of vitality, so that can provide enough support to the regular members. In a season, each NBA team has to play 82 games, including LA Lakers. When they finish the regular season, the top eight standings of each Western and Eastern have the qualification to take part in the playoff. Therefore, Lakers’ task is to finish the regular season and get a standing as well as possible. And then take part in the playoff and win the championship.
