How to react to familiar faces? Umberto Eco

Teacher will start by asking students to name some of the Kosovo celebrities like singers, actors, politicians etc and this will be used as a warm up activity and will engage students in the today’s topic.
Students will take turn on answering these questions:

1. Who is your favorite actor or singer?
2. How do people behave when they run into celebrity?
3. How would you think you would react if you see a familiar face?
4. Please give your opinion, how important is to know somebody that is famous here in Kosova.
5.In what ways was their life remarkable?
6. In what ways was their life admirable?
Continue by giving some background – In this essay Umberto Eco mentions several celebrities with whom you may not be familiar.
Anthony Quinn was a film actor who won two Academy Awards.
Charlton Heston another film author, won an Academy Awards for his role in the film Ben –Hur.
Johnny Carson was the host of the nighttime talk show The tonight Show for thirty years.
Oprah Winfrey is a successful talk-show host. She produces her show and also publishes a magazine.

A few months ago, as I was strolling in New York, I saw, at a distance, a man I knew very well heading in my direction. The trouble was that I couldn’t remember his name or where I had met him. This is one of those sensations you encounter especially when in a foreign city, you run into someone you met back home, or vice versa. A face out of context creates confusion. Still, that face was so familiar that, I felt, I should certainly stop, greet him, converse; perhaps he would immediately respond, ”My dear Umberto, how are you?” or “Were you able to do that thing you were telling me about?” And I would be at a total loss.
