Korea history- three kingdoms' founding myths
Three kingdoms period Foundation myths of three kingdoms have fundamental influences for Korea history study , if we looks depth into those legendary historical Goguryeo’s founder Dongmyeong wang (Jumong)’s legendary had relevant significantly with another ancient kingdom in North-east Asia.-Buyeo, which later on became hostile country of Goguryeo According to Samguksagi, king of Buyeo - Jumong’s adoptive father Geumwa Wang was born oviparously from a glossy, golden egg , with peculiar shape (삼국사기-고구려扶馀王解夫娄老无子,祭山川求嗣,见大石,使人转其石, 有小儿, 金色蛙形.收而养之,名曰金蛙。及其长, 立为太子)
Jumong was son of Hae Mo su (the son of heaven) and Yuhwa- the queen of Geumwa Wang. Hae mo su fell in love with Yuhwa but they somehow couldn’t maintain their relationship. But, Yuhwa gave the birth to a giant egg under sunlight exposure, which turned out to be Jumong later. (为日所炤,引身避之,日影又逐而炤之。因而有孕,生一卵,大如五升许)금와왕 was definitely not happy about this egg, he felt humiliate for being cuckold by his queen and attempted to destroy the egg, but the egg seemed to be adamantine and unbreakable . (王欲剖之,不能破,遂还其母) After overcame innumerable hardships, she raised Jumong up with courage and patience(其母以物嚸之,置於暖处,有一男儿,破壳而出,骨表英奇)-삼국사기-고구려). As Jumong had to grew up with endless persecutes his adoptive father’s, he escaped from Buyeo palace with his follower, and founded Goguryeo
As my observation, even though Jumong was an “egg”, his historical legendaries and Goguryeo’s founding myths were hugely relevant to both former dynasties and later on three kingdoms. In the other word, Goguryeo’s founding myths served as a strong bond between the previous history (such as Old Chosen, and Buyoe) and prospective history (such as baekje). For example, as I mentioned in the beginning, according to the myth, Jumong was raised up in Buyoe under the mistreat of his adoptive father- so, he was not necessary to leave his homeland and found a new kingdom if Geumwa Wang treaded him nicely. Also, according to Samguk Sagi,

After 1500, world regions such as West Africa, East Asia and South America were joined together into one worldwide trade system, for the first time in history, each area of the world now interacted with one another. Without question, China was the most leading country in the world in the 15th century. A great example of China’s amazing abilities at the time can be seen in the amazing voyages of the Chinese admiral Zeng He, between 1405 and 1433. His Muslim faith and respected position in government reminds us of the ethnic and religious diversity of the huge Chinese empire. He led fleets of Chinese boats across the Indian Ocean to trade in India, Southeast Asia, Arabia, and East Africa. These were, by far, the largest fleets in the history…

In the book Herodotus and Sima Qian (2010), Thomas R. Martin contests of the Greek Historian and the Chinese Historian Sima Qian. Martin displays that though the historians’ politics, cultures, and time periods were different, both historians had the innate desire to record their subjective view of history as objectively as possible. Though they were not the first writers of ancient Greece and China, their books and their historical innovations shaped and changed how the past was depicted from their culture and on.…

Ethnic and language have close relations, because different people will have different effect on language, the language will change with the passage of time. In general, people think that Japan is a nation state with a single nation, however, Japan is a multi-ethnic country since ancient time. In the Jomon period, Jomon people lived in the Honshu region and then the Ainu people came from Siberia and they lived in the northern Japan region of Hokkaido, and the Ryukyuans is belong to the branch of “Malayo-Polynesian” who lived in the far southern of island. The Jomon culture is the Neolithic civilization and the Jomon people’s main lifestyle is hunting, fishing and gathering. The formation and development of proto-Japanese language and the proto-Japanese nation also has two periods. In the Yayoi period, Korean people migrant from the Korean Peninsula to Japan, but the Korean immigrants did not replace the Jomon people who live in the mainland Japan, only part of the Korean intermarriage with the Jomon indigenous. On the Japanese nation aspect, according to Keiji Imamura’s research, “he found that the mainland Japanese are more similar to the Korean on the gene than the Ainu and Ryukyuans.” Because, many Korean people moved to mainland Japan, thus less impact on Ainu and Ryukyuans gene in the Yayoi period. During the Yayoi period, the proto-Japanese people was including the Ainu, Ryukyuans and the Kaya people, they were called “Wa-jin”. However, the ethnic Composition was changed which the Paekche people as the newcomer from Korean Peninsula, the Paekche people replace the position of the Kaya people in the Kofun period, they were called “Yamato-jin” by the scholars. GEATLAND- Beowulf, 85, of Geatland, passed away at his residence due to natural causes. He was born in 495 A.D. at the family home in Geatland. Noted warrior and adventurer, Beowulf also had a great deal of Honor. The King Hrothgar had aided his own father in a time of need, and Beowulf readily served the King in his father’s stead. When Beowulf was a young man, he sailed to Denmark and defeated the seemingly unconquerable monster called Grendel. His not using anything, save his own bare hands, as the monster had no weapons, could attest to Beowulf’s sense of fairness as well along with the sheer strength it would take to triumph. After defeating Grendel, Grendel’s mother was a force to be reckoned with. Not knowing if he would come back alive, Beowulf still went and fought the demon. And yet again, he was met with success. Not above a show of heroism, he cut off the head of Grendel that was in the lair and brought it to King Hrothgar. While bestowed with invaluable riches, it was more the glory and honor that Beowulf lived and eventually died for. As his cousin, Heardred, the only son of Hygelac, had perished years before, Beowulf became his uncle’s heir. Upon the death of his uncle, King Hygelac, Beowulf became King of the Geats. After reigning for 50 years, a dragon was awakened. Beowulf was an old King by now, but being who he was, fought anyway. Although the dragon took the beloved King’s life, Beowulf, in a sheer act of bravery and will, took the dragon’s as well; thereby making his kingdom safe once again. Beowulf was born to be destined for greatness. He lived, breathed, and died by the principle of a noble leader: to protect and fight for the people. He was preceded in death by his father, Ecgtheow; grandfather, Hrethel; cousin, Heardred; and three uncles, Hygelac, Herebeald, and Haethcyn.. He is survived by his predecessor and distant cousin, Wiglaf. Wiglaf had spoken about Beowulf's humble attributes…

The communistic reign on Korea can be traced back through one family, the Kim family. Kim Il-Sung was appointed by the Soviet leader of Russian in 1948 and served as North Korea’s dictator for almost 50 years until he died in 1994. Kim Il-Sung was worshipped like a god in North Korea and even referred to as “Great Leader, Heavenly Leader and even the Sun” (Pruitt). The love and respect that Kim Il-Sung received, was immediately transferred to Kim Jong-Il when he came to power in 1994. Kim Jong-Il’s reign was one that scared the whole world and involved much terror and abuse of power towards many countries and towards the whole North Korean population. Throughout the rest of this essay I will refer to Kim Jong-Il as Kim and anyone else by their full name. Kim was more than a dictator of North Korea but a tyrant of the world and with use of his power he abused the use of nuclear weapons, worker camps and deprived his country of food and medical attention.…
