“I don’t understanding this.” “My son is struggling so bad, I hope he can graduate as promised”-these are just a few typical complaints that are being made either by the LD student or their families. It is amazing when you hear stories about how families are struggling to seek special assistance in the school system for their children who are diagnosed with special needs. There are even times that most of these students decide to give up on trying and never have the privilege of knowing how they can overcome these negative obstacles. But, there is proof that families of special needs children do find their answers and allow the children to overcome what was once a haunting thriller.
Even though there are programs all over that can help accommodate these types of students and their families; many are not familiar with these accommodations. There are even many documentaries online that one can watch and listen to the drama that goes on in each of their lives. One in particular that is worth looking at, was ‘The Cole Family Overcomes Justin & Jesse’s Learning Disabilities’. Taking place in June of 2009 in Detroit, two boys are struggling with learning disabilities such as dyslexia; which affected their chances of reading and writing. The parents both Jake and Melissa both giving their support to allow changes in their sons learning, nothing seemed to improve as a result.
Both Justin and Jesse had some past excitements including referring and coaching lacrosse as well as playing four years of football-which they were still doing as high schoolers. By the time they were in third grade, their parents felt it was time for the two boys to... [continues]
