Keeping the moon by Sarah Dessen, is a novel about a girl named Colie sparks who, at the beginning of the book, is an unconfident 15-year-old who looks upon herself as a loser. Since her mother, who is basically, fitness celebrity kiki sparks, is touring in Europe for the summer, Colie has to spend her summer in Colby, California, with her aunt Mira. In Colie’s past she was very overweight, and made fun of because of it. When coming to Colby, Colie makes new friends, and experiences things that help boost her confidence.
Because of Colie’s past, her confidence level is not very high, nor has ever been very high. In the past years colie had moved from place to place, school to school, always hoping to be able to start over. But she always ended up being made fun of because of her weight. Even when her mother helps her get back into shape, she still can’t forget all those horrible years she was teased. When Colie comes to Colby, all that changes. Colie meets new friends that help her feel more confident about herself.
An important issue in this book would be the confidence Colie gains. Without confidence in yourself and who you are, it is easy to lose touch on the things that really matter to you. This book explains that know matter how you are treated, or were treated, it is important to show that you have confidence and strength. When you see it in yourself, you realize that you are unstoppable. People will start to respect your confidence, and you.
During an eclipse, you can be scared that the moon won’t come back. It is in a way like when you don't have confidence in yourself, and your scared that it will never come back, but eventually it always does. You just have to try and keep it, like the moon. It will always come back after an eclipse, you just have to give it time. The title gives the message that, there will always be times where you lose hope in yourself, but to just be patient. The title explains that you have to keep the moon...
