As the previous report discussed our company, Community Touch, is looking at having a greater presence in Kava. There are several issues that needed to be researched and defined. This report will describe those problems and the decision making tools that can be used to expand our presence on the island. Decision making has been defined by the Collins Dictionary of Sociology as, “the processes by which individuals, or groups and organizations, decide actions or determine policies. Obviously, decision making covers a wide area, involving virtually the whole of human action,” (decision making, 2006).
Community Touch uses several different techniques to solve problems, one of these is brainstorming. Some of the issues that were brought to the attention of Community Touch from the initial investigation were that of providing training and education, providing disaster relief, establishing disaster preparedness, and implementing a health care system for all Kava residents.
These issues were then defined even further with the technique of the five whys. The technique of the five whys was invented by Toyota, it is a technique that “encourage(s) people to address root causes of problems, rather than symptoms,” (Northern Echo, 2001).
Through these problem identification processes we have found the issues explained below. Community Touch would like to present solutions to those issues and in the process we believe that we can help the island of Kava flourish and be better prepared in times of distress. Communication is key to any successful business strategy; Community Touch brings the talents of Nik and Alex to the island of Kava with hopes for a successful venture. Our findings are described over the next several paragraphs.
