Katy Perry: Road to Success Katy Perry is an extraordinary singer with a great voice. She grew up in Santa Barbara, California not being able to listen to pop music with a religious family, both parents being pastors. She expresses herself in a way that tells her life story through music. She inspires many, saying that we don’t have to be like everyone else, that being weird is okay. Katy Perry’s music is unique following her personality and charisma, having a way of making people smile and enjoy life giving them hope to keep on going, that they’re not alone in life. People think she was an overnight success, but inspite of the obstacles she faced, her ambition to work hard and practice enormously ultimately led to her success. Perry’s religious family played an important part in her life. In her story her family did contribute to her ultimate goal in life. Growing up with a religious family and not being able to listen or watch anything that doesn’t have to do with religion was hard for Katy Perry. All Perry could listen to would be gospel music she says "The only things I was allowed to listen to were the Sister Act 1 and 2 soundtracks." (Perry). Being in a religious family consisted of her going to many church activities, “The presence of god in her life was absolute.” (Perry). Her parents traveled a lot to preach, they would move almost every two years, putting up barriers in Perry’s life. Perry had gone to Nashville to record a gospel album, Katy Hudson, which failed. The adversity of only listening to gospel music became an opportunity to further her career in music. A life changing experience that led to an enormous opportunity. After Perry’s gospel album failed, she decided to move out and travel. Perry moved out to Los Angeles, California to experience new things in life.
