Katy Perry

Katheryn Hudson was born in Santa Barbabra, California. She has two siblings an older sister and a younger brother.

Katy had a different childhood to all of her friends not a bad one but one that made her not realise what else was out their in the world. Katy and her family were religious, her parents were so strict about how their childrens life were to be run Katy was only alowed to listen to gospel music which at the time Katy thought was the music that all her friends would be listening too. She started singing from a really young age, singing at her church and in choirs.

The first time Katy heard any other style of music was at one of her friends house and she thought ‘wow i want to be like her’. She started writing songs expressing all of her feelings about life and how she felt locked away from the rest of the world because of her parents restrictions on her.

At fifteen Katy released first album which was made up of gospel genre music that she had written herself, but she knew that wasn’t the career she wanted. When she was 17 Katy decided to leave home, she was signed by a record company called Island records and was going to be producing another gospel album but billboard reported that she would go nowhere, in result of that she was dropped by the record company.

Another record company quickly snatched her up but decided to put her in a band as the lead singer of the matirx. They released their first album and the music press said that Katy might be the next big thing but was still creating her own album, but the record label decided not to finish the record and she was again dropped by another company called Columbia records.

Katy decided that she wanted to take control of her career and Capitol Music Group signed her and alowed her to do that. Her first single was released it was obviously I Kissed a girl. You are probably thinking how is she inspirational well first of all she has never given up so far and second of all she

Katy Perry is a singer and songwriter of pop-rock music. Katy Perry portrays her love for modern pop-rock music and performance by presenting it in such ways like in Wide Awake. Katy Perry performed a live music performance at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. The music video kept many of the same features such as the clouds, the shooting star, and the spaceship. Katy Perry’s story in her performance was similar to The Smashing Pumpkin’s music video because in Tonight, Tonight there are two people on an adventure into space and in The Wide Awake performance Katy Perry and a man are together on an adventure as well. However, Katy Perry seems to be in a dream having an adventure. She kept a similar interest about taking an adventure with a significant other and transitioned it in her own art style, which is more of a modern look. There were many of the same set features such as the spaceship, and the shooting star that The Smashing Pumpkins used, and George Melies originally had. The spaceship appears in the beginning of the performance and then the shooting star is towards the middle of the performance and those clearly have a meaning of when the spaceship and the shooting star are placed in the performance. Katy Perry used her performance to represent an adventure with someone, which was echoed from The Smashing Pumpkins. She was able to transcend her art of music into a live performance…
