I chose the company KARL LAGERFELD as the major player of the creative industries. The creative director of the brand KARL LAGERFELD is Karl Lagerfeld himself. He is one of the industry’s truly iconic designers and is also the creative director of the brands Chanel and Fendi. The branch of the company is clothing and fashion.

Karl Lagerfeld decided to create a brand under his own name, namely KARL LAGERFELD. The brand has gone through many ups and downs and several changes of ownership. In 1998, he began to finance the business on his own, under the Lagerfeld Gallery Label. Karl Lagerfeld don’t want to run the business , because there are people that do it better than he do. In 2004 he sold his brand to The Tommy Hilfiger corporation in order to give the label a global dimension. Since 2006 the KARL LAGERFELD company has been in the portfolio of a British investment fund, Apax Partners.

In an interview Karl Lagerfeld said, that his brand finally is going in the direction he wants it to go. The KARL LAGERFELD brand is retail-driven, it doesn’t do catwalk shows and is priced much lower than Chanel and Fendi. The company has ambitious plans for the business and have started on an aggressive growth strategy. That means, opening a new store every three weeks over the last six months. In the next five year there will be 40 stores open in China. For the Middle East are 10 new stores planned to be open. The annual retail value of the KARL LAGERFELD business is estimated by market reports at around 200 million dollar.

The KARL LAGERFELD company is changing the role of technology in fashion. KARL LAGERFELD looks to innovate the marketplaces by placing digitals in the stores. Customers in the changing rooms are able to use iPad’s to send a photo of themselves through social networks to seek a second opinion about their outfit. There are also mini IPad’s on clothes rails in the KARL LAGERFELD shops, digital guest-books and photo booths.
