KABANATA 21: Iba’t Ibang Anyo ng Maynila (Different Forms of Manila)
In the colorful theater Teatro de Variedades, an opera of Mr. Juoy called the Les Cloches de Corneville will be presented. By the entrance of the theater, there is a man called Camaroncocido who walked by dragging one of his feet. He has smooth face; he is wearing a suit that is Coffee colored and checkered pants. He is also wearing a broken hat.
Someone bumped him who was the complete opposite of Camaroncocido. He is Tiyo Kiko. He is very small and is wearing Filipino clothes.
During the show, Manila was divided into two: those who didn’t want the show to be presented like Don Custodio, the friars, married women and such; and those who would like to watch the show like the officials of the Military, and the people with high status.
(the people went to the play because 1st group was challenged because the friars banned it and the 2nd group thought there were some new knowledge from the play.)
Then Camaroncocido saw a soldier approaching a group of students. Then he saw him going near a carriage. Camaroncocido then recognized Simoun. He heard them talking and thought that they were planning to do something bad. (because he heard simoun say “the cue is a loud bang”) But he didn’t care.
Outside the theater, there is Tadeo with a fellow citizen. There also came Juanito Pelaez with Paulita Gomez and Doña Victorina. Then came the disguised Padre Irene and then Don Custodio. When the group of Macaraig arrived, they gave an extra ticket(supposedly for Basilio) to Tadeo and Tadeo left his companion.
KABANATA 22: Ang Palabas (The Show)
The people inside the theater are noisy because the 8:30 show hasn’t started yet because the Kapitan Heneral was not yet there. Don Primitivo’s seat was taken by someone else and he couldn’t do anything.
When the Marcha Real played, the Kapitan Heneral arrived. Pepay was also inside the theater with a letter because she will be used by the students in order to

When they had not. Well the town went crazy thinking there were witches in there town. : "Don Lazaro, you've got five boys in Comitan teaching the campesinos how to read. That's subversive. That's communist. So tonight, you have to kill them." Don Lazaro, the mayor of the war torn village, San Martin Comitan, seems to have no choice but to carry out this heartless command. His response is indicative of a desperate man searching for answers, yet already resigned to carrying out the task at hand. "What can I say? --you tell me!" cries an anguished Don Lazaro to the villagers. Is he pleading for their understanding, or asking for a miraculous solution that would alter the path that lay before him? It is this uncertainty that, when coupled with melancholy foreshadowing, leaves the reader at a suspenseful crossroad; suspecting that events are transpiring, but doubtful as to the outcome.…

The unknowable nature of the Silencio Club is obvious from the moment both Betty and Rita take direction to the place, which has solely been motivated by Rita´s unexplained dream. This break of the archetypal narrative is also suggested by the stylistic choices of the camera.
