Judging: Judge and Bob Marley
Judging Is Wrong

“Who are you to judge the life I live?I know I'm not perfect-and I don't live to be-but before you start pointing fingers...make sure you hands are clean!”- Bob Marley

What do we do when we meet a new person? We judge! Judging people is human nature. However, when we do form opinions of others instantly, most of the time we end up being wrong.

Judging a person based on his/her external appearances can be totally misleading. Our appearance isn't what defines us Clothing isn't who we are. Just because someone wears all black doesn't mean they’re Goth or Emo. Just because someone wears glasses doesn’t mean they are a nerd. Deciding whether or not a person has value based on what they wear is ridiculous. Deciding whether or not a person has value based on physical characteristics or disabilities is equally ridiculous.

Words like “Nerd” and ”Fat” are just some of the slurs that are used to hurt others who are being judged by their appearances. My friend, Janey, who is beautiful and talented and one of the sweetest girls I know, has been in counseling for the past year. Why? Because she tried to kill herself last year when she just couldn’t take people calling her names anymore. Names like “Nerd” and “Fatso.” When will we learn that it doesn't matter what's on the outside only what's on the inside?

Trench Town had a number of successful local performers and was considered the Motown of Jamaica.A local record producer, Leslie Kong, liked Marley's vocals and had him record a few singles, the first of which was "Judge Not," released in 1962. While he did not fare well…

In the world that we live in today, prejudice and stereotyping has a great impact on our perspectives of others. Every day, people are criticized and judged on their appearance based their body weight, their height and the way we look. I myself have also experienced judgement due to my physical appearance. To start, I am taller than most people my age, and it causes people to view me as powerful, athletic and intimidating. Also my thin frame evokes prejudice and leads others to underestimate my abilities; they assume that I am weak. Lastly, people have different first impressions of me based on my tattoo and the way I dress. These physical traits provoke both positive and negative criticism. Ultimately, people do not judge me based on my behaviour and personality, but rather based on the way I present my body and my physical appearance.…

Now, I’m not going to lie and say that I’ve never in my life judged a person based on their clothes, or makeup, because I have. Even though I don’t like to admit it, on many occasions I’ve met someone for the first time and assumed different aspects about them based on ones outside features. But just because I associate their appearance with certain behaviors or attitudes, doesn't mean that I stick them in a stereotype box and that's all they ever are to me.…

There are always school stereo types. The shy girl is always portrayed as rude or stuck up, but maybe she has bad anxiety and a hard time talking to new people. Every girl who gets an abortion is called a slut or baby killer, but that’s not necessarily the case she might just have a bad home life and made one bad decision and needs a way out. Everyone thinks that because they go to church every Sunday there good Christian people, but it takes more than going to church to be a good Christian person. Just because a house is big and has a nice paintjob on the outside doesn’t mean that it can’t be messy, and not well taken care of on the inside. If you don’t wear name brand clothes it doesn’t mean your family is poor. There can always be a difference between appearance and reality. It just takes the right people to realize it sometimes. I think it’s hard to truly understand someone. And judging someone based on looks or how you think they act can make all the difference. Everyone can see things differently then what it truly…
