JSBMHA and HIPAA Case Study Check Point
How does HIPAA serve to protect patient rights?
HIPAA help protect the rights to privacy of patients and doctors confidentiality. Any individuals past, present, and future information whether it’s physical, mental or etc. HIPAA also protects the individual involved such as; their name, birth date, address, and social security number. No information can’t be discussed with anyone who isn’t directly involved with the case or any individual can’t be discussed by an agency. What areas of the JSBMHA did HIPAA compliance impact?
All areas of the JSBMHA were affected, because HIPAA really has a great impact on patient rights. I felt that the grandmother could of alert others of what took place, because the people that was involved in the case felt very uncomfortable about giving out information, and the patients and agency was put in an difficult position it made all information unsecure and broke trust at the JSBMHA.
What actions should the JSBMHA director take about the HIPAA violation? Explain your answers in detail.
This is a very serious violation, because the trust of a family was lost and the entire agency was put in a bad situation. I feel Jim should be fired, because he knew better, by him being with the agency that long 20 years, he should know the agency policies and rules. He was supposed to be a role model for Betty since she hasn’t been at the agency long. Betty should be suspended, because she shouldn’t be talking about people outside the office.
