Journey To Mars
It has now been 24 years since I have landed on the red waste land of a planet I call home. I left my family, my home and the wonderful planet Earth I used to call home. I keep thinking to myself why did I take the journey to come here I could be doing so much with my life instead of wasting away, with death right around the corner. My name is Josh Greenwood and this is my story. It all started on the 14 of August 2015 when I was given the opportunity to go to Mars the only thing was it was a one way trip. But me being me a 21 year old male without a job, without a life I decided to take this opportunity. But for what... To be a hero to finally get recognised? It came to the day of the launch I was anxious, scared and nervous because I was unsure on what was going to happen, what it was going to be like being by myself on mars. Why was I leaving everything behind to be a hero, I’m going to be alone and I’m going to die young but it’s too late to back out now. As I climbed up the ladder to enter the cock pit I would lay in for the next day I was looking around to see if my parents and friends where here to see me off but they weren’t which mad me hurt deeply inside. I entered the cockpit and laid in my chair checking all my controls ready for launch. I closed my eyes & cleared my mind, when I zoned back in I heard the countdown “10, 9, 8, 7...” At this point I was really anxious and scared. All of a sudden I felt the thrust and the power of the rockets, at this point there was really know time to turn back as I kept shooting up I felt nervous of what was going to happen once I left the earth’s atmosphere. I closed my eyes and in a matter of time I heard the alarm coming from the cock pit telling me that it was time to prepare for the landing, at this point I felt joy, excitement, why wouldn’t I ?, I was going to be the first person in mankind history to step foot on mars. I opened the bay doors not knowing what it would look like outside. It was just

Dr. Stephen Petranek said, ”Some of the greatest advantages in civilization and technology, came because we explored.” Humans should not colonize Mars. If humans colonized Mars, humans would barely be able to survive. Mars lacks two very crucial products to survive, food and oxygen. Humans of the future would not benefit with colonizing Mars because humans who go to Mars, will have a risky voyage, there is not oxygen, and it will cost a lot of money to arrive on Mars.…

Humans have dreamed of leaving the earth and traveling space for many years, and up to this day they have taken many steps in the right direction. Yet, with every new frontier they approach, new problems loom over the horizon. Some of these problems arise right here on Earth. Some of the issues have been resolved, such as escaping the forces of gravity to reach outer space. Most of the problems are far more arduous and the solutions need more time to be worked out properly. In “The Coming Schism” by James E. and Alcestis R. Oberg, they posit that humans can colonize space. Humans need to buckle up and build the technology which will help to solve problems that would arise to settle outside earth. The Obergs use comparative strategy that is to use the yardstick of the past to measure future to convince the reader that the colonization of space is possible, if problems such as, communication, cultural conflict and the rejection to space exploration is solved. The solutions to the problem are important for the journey to space, because they all have the potential to disrupt progress.…

Alexander Fisher and Juniper Springs had opposing views on whether it was time to go to mars or not with their articles, The Case for Mars and Mars- A Waste of Time and Money. Both articles discussed the same topics and supported them in the same way, but with opposing opinions on the topic. The authors both included points about new technology and how it would affect the economy, whether robots can take a human’s place on Mars, and how the radiation levels could affect a human body. For example, in article one, The Case for Mars, states that technology developed during the quest could benefit humans. Fisher also argues that robots take much longer to do the same amount of work compared to humans. He also admits that the radiation is dangerous,…

I closed my eyes hoping I would bring myself to imagine I was in heaven safe and happy without any sort of pain I've been feeling since I began the trip but sadly that imagine didn't last, I heard somebody yell “Put your hands up now!!!” I froze in spot not knowing what to do the only thing I did know was my life was about to come to an end. I heard the Immigration and Customs Enforcement known as a police to arrest immigrants. The police officer was actually arresting and yelling at a man I knew who was also on the journey with the rest. I thanked God for not letting the police officer find me. As bad as I felt for the man I had to keep my head and keep walking. As I remembered my mother's words “Never bend your head. Always hold it high.…

My life, for 2 days, completely ended. I was marched through the prison in shackles, I was laughed at, and I was mocked. (PAUSE) I was hated. All because I’m an actor, I never was drunk, I never did kill someone, this never actually happened. It was all an act, an act to teach people the horrors of drinking and driving - and the consequences thereof. I still get the shakes from thinking about it. Thinking about how real everything was, the pain, the suffering, the tears, the fear. I’ll never forget how Every 15 Minutes changed me, and how it made my life just a little bit different - by that I mean, it gave me a new outlook, to really appreciate the here and now, rather than fret…

We were at the airport after a bouncy bus ride there. When we got there we were unpacking the bus and waiting to get our suitcases. While I was waiting, people from my group didn’t know me and asked me if I was ready to get on that plane since it was my first time. They told me that it was going to be better than the leaping bus ride there. Finally I got my suitcase and we all started heading to the check in line. As the line was getting closer to the check in desk I was getting more and more nervous. I felt like my stomach was burning and felt that my organs wanted to scream and get back on that bus. But I was a big girl and sucked it up and got in line to get in. We approached the plane and I was getting more anxious and nervous. I stepped in the hallway that leads to the plane seats and sat down next to the window, which I think was a bad idea. Once the plane was full it started to back away from the building and started to go faster and…

What does a planet need to have in order to support life? Earth is unique in our solar system because it is the only planet that is supporting life. Some scientists go so far as to say that the Earth is a “perfect planet” because it has features that are the perfect environment for living organisms; these features include our atmosphere, water, and a single moon. Earth is also in a place in our solar system where the Sun gives off the right amount of energy to drive the life. The distance from the Earth to the Sun determines how much of that heat we receive. If it weren’t for our ozone layer and Earth’s magnetic field, harmful rays would penetrate our surface and life would be exterminated. Everything the Earth has to offer us is balanced perfectly to keep life continuous.…

After we were all on the boat we had to go through a beautiful inlet that lead out into the ocean. We were then instructed on how put our life jackets and harnesses on. The instructor decided that I was going to be the first one to go up in the air. I made my way to the front of the boat and sat down on the deck so he could hook the parachute to my harness. Without a warning he let the parachute go and then I was ascending up into the air almost felt like the speed of light! As I was going up, he shook the line to scare me. Finally when I reached 500 feet, I could see the shore line. It was a breath taking view. I could see giant sea turtles and I even saw a shark. I was in the air about 30 minutes. Then I started descending down. When I was close to the boat, he dunked me into the same water where I had just moments earlier seen the shark and the sea turtles.…
