Sustainable development and engineering ethics as well as social aspects of engineering are emerging issues related to power electronics. Several important topics like environmentally sustainable products and electromagnetic compatibility fit into this description. Therefore, these issues have recently become part of the advanced course on power electronics at Lund University. The authors’ intention with the present overview paper is to share the ingredients and results so far and to review ongoing Nordic activities that could form a basis for others to expand from traditional power electronics. It is our firm opinion that issues like LCA, EPR, EMC, EMI have to be addressed and highlighted in the education of power electronic engineers.…

During my undergraduate studies in Electrical and Electronics branch of xyz college subjects like Electrical Machines, Microprocessors, Power Electronics and Power Systems interested me the most. I am amazed by the potential of power electronics in the field of Energy Systems. I decided to do my final year project in the field of Electronics. It involved designing of “Dual buck full bridge inverter with hysterisis current control”. It helped me in understanding the importance of simulating the electronic circuits on software like PSIM and MATLAB. It also gave me the opportunity to implement the design on physical hardware for the first time. Reading through the journals helped me gain a lot of knowledge.…

Abstract — Development of electrical power supplies began more than one hundred years ago. At the beginning, there were only small DC networks within narrow local boundaries, which were able to cover the direct needs of industrial plants by means of hydro energy. With an increasing demand on energy and the construction of large generation units, typically built at remote locations from the load centres, the technology changed from DC to AC. Power to be transmitted, voltage levels and transmission distances increased.…
