Child Psychologist
Psychology focuses on the early stages of life that children encounter. The career revolves around studying the way children think and their reactions towards certain events. The minds of children differ from adults, which makes child psychology a different career compared to regular psychology. However, to become a child psychologist you can incorporate several special areas, such as counseling and research (Christensen, 2003). To become a psychologist of any type, it can take years or even ten, which is why you must be a dedicated student. The career takes a lot of devotion and desire, and in order to become a child psychologist you must earn a doctorate degree. Many people characterize psychologists as people who just confront the issues of their patients, but there are more uncovered areas that child psychologists must address. The job of these dedicated individuals involves: research, studies, and counseling. It has been said that there is no clear difference among psychologists and child psychologists, except the fact that Child psychologists focus on aiding children (Christensen, 2003). In the early years of life the professionals pay close attention to each child’s: motor skills, language and speech, social behavior, and emotions (Kagan, 2009). Different children have different reactions towards particular areas, which call for individual analysis and research. A child psychologist is sometimes given a job by the government to help do research on children who have taken part in crimes or were victims of crimes (Christensen, 2003). The research that the child psychologists develop helps to determine if the crime was truly affected by the child’s mental conflicts. The study of each child can help people understand why children act the way they do when in certain situations.
