Jesus Christ and Mohammed are both considered the human origins of each of their respective religions.   Christians believe that Jesus was the son of God, while Muslims believe that Mohammed was a prophet of God, known to them as Allah.   Therefore, in actuality it seems to be true that both Islam and Christianity worship and believe in the same God. They just disagree on everything else.   To better understand this let us look at the backgrounds of each of these men.
Both Jesus and Mohammed were born into poverty.   Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Jerusalem in an animal stable where his parents, the virgin mother, Mary and his father, Joseph had sought refuge when no one in the town would give them a place to sleep.   Mary went into labor and Jesus was born.   He spent his first night in a manger.  
Mohammed was also born into poverty in the town of Mecca in the Arabian Peninsula.   Mohammed never knew his father because he had passed on before his birth.   By the time Mohammed had turned six years old, he was an orphan and living with his Uncle as a shepherd. (Fisher, 2005)
There is little known or written about Jesus’ youth.   Instead, after his birth, we only hear of him beginning at the age of 12.   It was at this time in his life that Jesus began revealing his identity as the son of God and began to spread the word of God in Jerusalem.   Jesus taught that people should love God and love their neighbors as their own.  
In contrast, Mohammed did not begin his teachings until the age of 40.   During this year of his life, it is believed that Mohammed was in meditation in a cave searching for answers when the Angel Gabriel visited him.   Gabriel is said to have delivered the message from Allah that Mohammed was his one and last prophet.   He was told that he was the messenger and he was to spread the word of Allah, which was to believe in only Allah and to jihad in his name.
