Jeffrey Dahmer was one of the most notorious serial killers in history. He was psychologically disturbed and was shown in his victims’ homicides. Dahmer only lived for thirty-four years, but done more in those years than anyone could’ve imagined. |

“I should have stayed with God. I tried and failed, and created a holocaust.” * Jeffrey Dahmer
For those who don’t know, Jeffrey Dahmer murdered seventeen men/boys in thirteen years. His crimes involved rape, dismemberment, necrophilia, and cannibalism. He was finally caught in 1991 and since Wisconsin doesn’t have the death penalty, he was sentenced, in 1992, to fifteen consecutive life terms in prisons. After only being incarcerated for two years, Dahmer was beaten to death by another inmate at Columbia Correctional Institute.

On May 21, 1960, Lionel and Joyce Dahmer had no idea the baby boy they brought into the world that day in Milwaukee would become one of the most notorious serial killers in history. Growing up he seemed like a normal, happy child. At the age of six, Dahmer underwent surgery to correct a double hernia, and while also gaining a baby brother, this seemed to be the cause in his change of character. He became quiet, kept to himself and shut out the world, and lacked self-confidence. Throughout his teenage years, his family had moved to Ohio, which caused deeper insecurities. Dahmer’s actions started showing his psychological troubles, he would collect road kill, dissect those animals, and save the bones. In one instance he put a dog’s head on a stake. This was just the beginning of what was to come.

Jeffrey Dahmer stated that he started to have necrophilia and murderous thoughts around the age of fourteen. The catalyst for turning these thoughts into actions was the divorce of his parents, increasing the stresses Dahmer was already having. With these psychological stresses and being an alcoholic, it wasn’t long after graduation, he made his first kill. His struggle with his homosexual and sadistic thoughts led him to pick up a hitchhiker, nineteen year old Steven Hicks, in June of 1978. The two went to Dahmer’s father’s house, drank beer and engaged in sex. When Hicks tried to leave afterwards, Dahmer bashed him in the head with a barbell and killed him. Needing to get rid of the body, he dismembered the corpse, placed the body parts in garbage bags, and buried the bags in the woods behind the house.

It wasn’t for another nine years Dahmer would commit his next murder. During that time, he attended Ohio State, but only for a semester due to his alcoholism. After dropping out of college, his father forced him to enlist in the Army. He served two years, but was discharged due to his drinking problem. Returning home to Ohio after being discharged, Dahmer dug up the bags containing Hicks’ remains, crushed them, and scattered them more thoroughly throughout the woods. His drinking led him to the start of his criminal record. In 1981, he was arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct, his father then made him move to Wisconsin to live with his grandmother, hoping Dahmer’s behavior might improve. It didn’t. The next year, Dahmer was arrested for exposing himself at a state fair after having too much to drink. Four years later, 1986, he was charged with public exposure for masturbating in public and served ten months in jail. Shortly after his release, Dahmer was again arrested for sexually fondling a thirteen year old boy. This time, he was placed on probation for five years after convincing the judge he needed therapy.

While on probation, Dahmer took his second victim, Steven Toumi age twenty-six. The two met one evening and spent the night cruising gay bars, drinking very heavily, and checked into a hotel room. The next morning, Dahmer claims to have found Toumi dead next to him. Not knowing how he had killed Toumi, he decided to buy a large...
