For the following essay, I will be discussing the movie Fight Club’s two main characters. Their names are “Jack” played by Edward Norton, and Tyler Durden played by Brad Pitt. However we find out towards the movie that in reality Jack and Tyler are the same person and Tyler is Jack’s real name. Tyler the character is a repressed and extreme version of everything that Jack wants and aspires to be. I. Jack Norton

Jack is portrayed as extremely depressed and suffers from insomnia. He feels lonely and not understood. Jack seems to be out of place and thinks his life has no substantial meaning. When I saw this movie I thought that Jack couldn’t take control of his life, it was probably because of fear, fear of making mistakes, being alone, or just simple failure. He sleepwalks through life, being neither fully awake nor fully asleep. His job is dull and unfulfilling and his life is substantial only by possessions. b.Personal life

You can see in the movie that Jack goes to not one, but many support groups such as testicular cancer, alcoholics anonymous, etc. In my he is just too scared to become a wholesome person, that’s what support groups are, they listen to your problems and try to make you feel whole again. You can see that he feels threatened when the character of Marla shows up in all the support groups just like he does and feels invaded by this you can see how he is fearful of everyone and anyone that comes into his life. c.Fight club

When Norton and Durden start “fight club” there is an immediate change in his person and personality. Jack began to feel more alive. In the movie he uses the words "Fight Club wasn't about winning or losing. It wasn't about words, when the fight was over, nothing was solved, but nothing mattered. Afterwards, we all felt saved.” (Fincher, 1999) Jack had been hiding his aggressive nature, and by owning up to them during their fight sessions at Fight Club, he becomes a freer person. II.Tyler Durden
